That's spot on. Three WC players covered Davis who was just to the side of Buchanan, thus opening up a small gap that Buchanan beautifully utilised!

Such a gutsy, determined and increasingly skilful player. It's been exciting to see the contributions increase in quality and quantity.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I don't wanna say "I told you so" (in fact I'm delirious enough that I don't care what I say), but I have a (losing) TAB ticket where I stood to pick up $200 (for a $5 investment) if little Bucky had got up in the NSM.

Not that I'm bitter-- for most of the game Judd was a cut above everyone else on the field, and even if a Swan was to get it, you could think of 5 other worthy recipients. But this was a game all about the last quarter, and he was clearly BOG in the last quarter. (Excepting the last 10 seconds, when some obscure defender did something that will quickly be forgotten.)

When you win a cut-throat final and then a GF, both by less than a kick, almost everyone who did anything can get the appellation "we couldn't have done it without him", but we really, really couldn't have done it without him. His game against Geelong was unbelievable, and improbably against St K he was even better.

No-one (including myself) would have cried terribly hard if he wasn't picked up again after being delisted at the end of '03, and he has just played the finals series of his freakin' life. If they gave out 'player of the series' awards for the best player across the whole finals series, he would be very, very stiff not to win. I just cannot rave enough about this kid.

Was my tip for the NSM. Ladies & gentlemen, we have a superb new midfielder on our hands & he goes by the name Monty.

when I go tmy ticket for the game it was an omen for me that he would play well - M (Monty) 32.

His efforts in the last quarter were staggering. He was everywhere, did everything except take the mark. His celebration after the last goal was just brilliant.
                oh well, maybe next time......

Bucky has always played well when the chips are down against him. Got the recall after a player was out from injury against Essendon and played well there.
Almost got dropped again, but played a blinder against another team.

And to the GF where the chips were down against us in the last quarter, he lifted up 3 gears with sheer determination and grit and rightfully kicked the winning goal.

Up there with Nicky D's last quarter against Geelong.

                  Onya Bucky!!!!!!!!!!

Amon has benefitted greatly from the umpires (no I don't mean in free kicks) but the crackdown on players holding the ball in at contests in particular (together with the umpires inability to police marking contests) has meant that for the first time in years there have been significant opportunities there for rovers. By that I don't mean "small midfielders" but genuine short arses that fetch the ball out of packs, have good bust speed but could never be confused with "athletes."

i thought he was a bit hard done by when originally delisted .But now has taken his 2nd chance and run with it..What a great game from the man..would have gone close to winning the nom smith surely..maybe a big statement but i think that his performance in the last quarter was the difference

I didn't! I saw his first few games and saw nothing, of course we were playing him out of position. But who knew the piss poor goal sneak of 2002 would become a excellent old style rover in 2005?

The unforutnate thing for Bucky that year was that he suffered a pretty serious injury very late in the reserves season. I could just see him hobbling off in emotional and physical pain as he probably knew what his fate was,

It's just a real to the coaching staff for giving himself the chance to give it one more crack and a credit to Bucky for making the most of it.

I'm off to Mick Simmons to get number 32 on the back of my gurnsey this week

I didn't. Meant to be a goalsneak but wasn't delivering, and really didn't seem to have the engine or consistency to play in the midfield.

However, I was really impressed with his efforts last year and began to think we really had a good quality midfielder on our hands.

I am amazed by his improvement since debut though.

Winning a grandfinal is weired, we've all gotten so mellow. Yesterday I found myself agreeing with Nico, today Bloods is agreeing with me. Thank goodness for Sanecow!

Iasked Monty tonight if he was really homesick and wanting to go back to Victoria? He looked at me as if I was mad and said "I love it here. I have a year on my contract and I hope it's renewed next year."
