    No.14

What is your opinion on the No.14?

I would say one of two things: either it must be awarded to the captain of the club (as long as it is a one captain system), as Richmond has just done with Jack Dyer's No.17; or it remains the same, only to be given to the truly special individual who embodies everything this great club is about.
If you believe the latter, it's time the famous number is offered to the one and only Brett Kirk.

It has to be allocated in 2006

I would love to see #14 on the park again

I think Kirky has made his name in the #31 guernsey, so in my mind the candidates are:

    Sean Dempster
    Lewis Roberts-Thomson
    Amon Buchanan
    Jarred Moore
    Nick Malceski
    Paul Bevan

You would think one of these players would be wearing the #14 next year

While these are all great young players I don't think any of them are worthy of wearing the number 14. Leave it until a youngster really makes his mark on the game the same way kelly did when he started with the swans.

How about we don't give to a player for any reason other than its a spare number thats available for use. Now I know that might seem like a stupid idea and not one that shows the respect the number should get, but I think if we give the number to say the club captain or a rising star type player it puts too much pressure on that player to live up to the number.

So I say it give it out like any number is and let that player make his own history in that number and not be expected to be the next Skilton or Kelly. Plus as silly as it sounds since the number hasn't been used, most of us on RWO have suggested that the number be given to the best first year player each year and each year we have jinxed that player.

We all wanted Fixter to wear 14 right after Kelly retired and since he has been injured, after 2003 we wanted Schneider to get the number and in 2004 he puts in a poor season and after last year we wanted Paul Bevan to get the number and yet again he stuggled and was in a way lucky to play in the premiership. So how about we don't suggest anyone and just give it to whoever wants it and let them make their own luck
        Once was, now elsewhere

100% agree. waiting until a young player is deemed "worthy" could turn the jumper into a poisoned chalice.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

I don't think anyone should get it.

Nope disagree, the player who is worthy of it will not be burdened by expectation. When Kelly came along everyone knew there was something special about him and it should be reserved for a similar player even if it takes another 10 years.

It's been a long time since we won a Premiership with that jinx on the park but I would give it to any of the Premiership players who asked.

You can't change Kirk's number as that would wreck me remembering my passwords.....
