    Tadhg to Ireland after contract?

I read in an interview with Tadhg in a paper on the weekend that heis still planning to go back to Ireland to play Gaelic Football for Kerry when his contract with the Swans is up. Do you reckon this is likely? My brother, Hawthorn fan, reckons it would be one of the biggest losses to the AFL as Tadhg is one of the most exciting players to watch and Mal (brother) says he's also one of the most talented. I must agree.

    I *really* hope he doesn't go :-(.

Its not as if he hasn't given insufficient warning about this. He has continually said he would like to win an all-Ireland with Kerry. The only thing though is that he will probably be in the top 10 earners at the Swans with a new contract, considering he would gearn nothing to play GAA. Got to admire his convictions if he did it though

Pay the man, and pay the man big when his contract expires. But if it wasn't enough as much as it would be a sad loss to our club it would be great to see him persue his life long goal.

Now that we've won a flag, I reckon it is more likely to happen than not. Plus it didn't help that County Kerry went down on the weekend!

I wouldn't be sad, good on him! I would jump on the Kerry bandwagon though.

I read that article with a sinking heart too It will be sad to see him go when the time comes, but I can understand why he wants to go back.

I dont think he would go back before he turns 30. Let's say he is moving there next year, he should be able to get a premiership with Kerry within 2 years. What else would he do after that? finding another profession? at the prime age of 27-28? I dont think so.

He should be good with us for another 5 years I think.

I'm hoping against hope he sticks with us for another couple of years at least - he has so much more to give us, and still has so much to learn and do out here - I want to see him with the Brownlow around his neck and a second premiership medal too!!

On the one hand, it'd be an impressive display of love for the Irish game and of principles to turn his back on this professional sport and return to his roots. On the other hand he's a good player and it'd suck for him to leave...

Didn't he recently take out Australian Citizenship? Why would he do that if he wasnt staying put for a while?

He said it would help him get through passport control faster.

Won't be for another 5 or 6 years at least

was also very concerned when i saw these comments, and worried that our victory will make him more inclined to go. after all, he can tick the AFL Premiership box now and can turn his thoughts to his other goal.

but let's hope a combination of factors will keep him with us for a couple of years - money, sydney lifestyle, plus the buzz around the club. also read he's bought a place out bondi way recently, so that might keep him here.

other thing is that with gaelic football much less contact-based that aussie rules its probably the sort of thing you can play while older. at 30, he could still be an elite gaelic footballer while in afl everybody starts talking about retirement.

a delegation of red and white onliners may have to be rustled up to plead with him

How good would it be to see other Aussie Rules players moving to Ireland at the end of their AFL career?

I'd very quickly offer to marry him but I'm afraid the benefits might be far better for me than for him ;-)
