They go to Perth no matter what. Every team has to play at every ground, bar Skilled Stadium, Aurora, Manuka and Marrara.

perth is not guarenteed considering we have come here at least once for the past 5 or 6 years - last year there were a couple of teams that didnt have to come here at all

It's biased towards the teams at the bottom end of the ladder to keep the competition even.

You would think that the Swans finishing Premiers will mean that Freo may well only play us once, and at Subi.

Are you sure this is correct? There were a couple of years where the Swans didn't come to Brisbane. I really really really hope they do in 2006

Well, it's mathematically impossible for every team to visit the two one-team cities. We only have 11 or 12 home games, so we can't possibly host all of the other 15 clubs.

Fairness be damned, the AFL will schedule the fixture to suit itself. I daresay we are a good chance of playing Brisbane twice, playing once in Canberra, playing once at either Perth/Adelaide and twice at the other. Maybe even once each for Perth/Adelaide, which opens up the possibility of 6 in Melbourne/Geelong.

We'll know in about a week, anyway.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

I think the AFL have decided to play the Swans against Brisbane twice every year.

There appears to be an informal rule that the Swans will play Brisbane twice. We can also expect to play West Coast and probably St Kilda twice next year.

We will get games against Essendon and Collingwood in Sydney, and probably Geelong since the club has requested six games in Melbourne (not including Geelong)... and the fixture probably doesn't push to a seventh game in Victoria yet.

Other teams that we haven't hosted that often in Sydney recently are Carlton (not since 2003) and Richmond (once since 2002).

I think we can expect some big crowds next year. Plenty of $$$.
