I may be about to make myself the most unpopular contributor on here but anyway . . .

Without wanting to detract from the players and Roos - not to mention other football dept staff - there's one bloke who deserves a big pat on the back (and sorry if someone slipped in another mention elsewhere).

Because whatever whinges the small-minded types on here have about him, he came to the club when it was a basketcase and stuck with it through the good, the bad and the ugly.

So take a bow Richard Colless. Here's hoping he enjoyed it

He's the perfect foil for Roosy. Paul says nothing and Richard says everything. But he treats us all like family and always has time for a chat. It really is a passion for him and he loves the club.

Spot on, has done a great job in all aspects of his work with the club, not least battling the AFL and Melb clubs.

Great to see his interview on 'on the couch'

Mr Colless is great. I gave him and his partner some of the Bay 28 Good Luck Footy Bikkies when I saw him walking into the G before the GF. He gave me a kiss on the cheek, and after shaking my hand, said: "Thank you". Meanwhile, his other half was stoked: "I've got Roosy! I've got Roosy!"

He has the ability to put you at ease immediately and make you feel as though you matter. I caught up with him at B&F and he said he didn't eat them until after the game, but "that's why we won!". A little flattery goes a long way! I am taking notes...

I am glad he's our chairman. Certainly a refreshing change from McEddie McGuire.

I had my doubts about the way the club was being run in 2002 - the first year that I began to take much notice of these things. The year was shambolic - we had a coach leave halfway through the season, we had senior players walking out (Schwass did so a couple of weeks before he retired, and there were murmurs that Dunks was unhappy), we were losing games we shouldn't lose, crowds disappeared and we posted a record loss.

But in the past three years, its all changed. 2002 was a speedbump, when at many clubs it would have turned very, very nasty. Colless hasn't only been at the helm once when we've lifted ourselves off the mat... he's had to do it twice. I take my hat off to the man (well, I would if I were wearing a hat).

R22 2002 I believe. Two of our regulars in that shot. There were a LOT of very upset people that night.
