The Best things about today ?

120 mins - Brisbane never once got the lead in the match, we led all day, for the full 120 mins, gives me alot of satisfaction against the best team in the competition.

Stoppages / Hard Ball Gets / IE: Midfields - we beat or at the very least broke even in the stoppages and clearances etc and came out on top again like last week winning the battle of the midfields which makes me very pleased, especially against the like Black, Voss, Buckely and Licuria.

The form of Micheal O'loughlin - After 3 games and 11 goals, micky is fastly aproaching on his All Australian Form, his first quarter of football today was absolute vintage O'loughlin - great to see.

Please feel free to add to this list if you wish.

The fact it was a very even performance across the team, we didn't rely on one or two players to get us over the line. Even with Magic kicking 5, IIRC 3 were from marks, which means the delivery to him was strong.

The fact we aren't focusing all our attack on Barry Hall. With Micky firing, and the ability of Goodes, Davis and Schneider as other goalkicking options, our forward set up is looking quite potent.

The biggest positive for me today, was the fact we didn't let the floodgates open in the 3rd quarter after Brisbane kicked 3 in 5 minutes. We steadied the ship, held them to only one more goal in the quarter, and then held our composure in the 4th even when they got to within 3 points. That mental resilience is something I haven't seen in a Sydney team for a few years now.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

The best thing for me was that when the Lions surged we were able to find some more fight and hold them off and inturn win........... A little G&D 110 % effort

      Well done Swannies

I think that we fought back after letting the Lions get within a kick in the last quarter. Definitely the Swans will have a lot of confidence in themselves after today.

Really been impressed with the skill level the last two weeks. Although at times in the second half there were a few bad clangers due to increased pressure, but overall foot, hand and decision skills have improved 500% on the Hawthorn game 3 weeks ago.

Also, with the improved skill level, I think we are moving the ball into the forwards so much faster and that it's great that we're not one dimensional and have many more avenues to goal now.

          Best thing about the win?

For me despite all the free kicks for Brisbane which the got a few goals out of. One was stage right in front of goal. And at one stage I thought Brisbane had about 10 frees in a row. Brisbane were definately playing for them.

          We still win so hahahahahahahaha

            Best thing about the win

More or less repeating what others have noted:

            - Despite the umps giving the reigning premiers 11 freekicks to 3 in the second half it still wasn't enough for Brisbane.

            - In the 3rd quarter the Lions really lifted their aggression - that's how they win games, by being ferocious in their tackling and going for the ball. The Swans looked rattled and I thought, this is the turning point, this is when Brisbane overrun us. But for the second week in a row, against the two most aggessive hard-hitting teams in the comp, the Swans were able to match them. They made us proud yesterday!

              Pleasing signs I saw were:

              - confidence to run, deliver the ball to teamates, and expect to receive the ball properly

              - better delivery of the ball

              - belief such that the team stood up when the pressure was on in the second half

              - tight marking and tough tackling, particularly against probably the toughest team in the comp

              - a good mix of players able to kick goals and generally kicking pretty well at them

              - despite an undersized and understrength backline, they stuck at pretty well and limited Brisbane's scores despite them having more Inside 50s

              - good coaching by Roos

schneider being tagged by a brownlow medalist!!! that says heaps!

making the opposition look soft and making them continually play for free kicks, while we were not

Our backs have been the most pleasing so far. The most critcised backline in the country being able to hold off a similar side to last years premiers to under 12 goals is a mighty fine effort.

Our midfield has been freed up with the return of Cressa and Crouch's job as a tagger has been improving since day 1.

The forwards were great considering we won by 3 goals against a team containing Lynch, Leppitch etc up forward and they had more scoring shots.

Noone had a dud game even everyones fav, Warfe in his 30 second spurt

10 goals from marks....says alot about our accuracy from set shots and delivery into the forward line!

I can't remember which article it was, but one of the papers said

"As Crouch's kicked wobbled through and the ball returned to the centre square, the famous Sydney Chant went up and that was it for the Lions."

...or words to that effect. Thought the same thing myself at the time.

The best bit for me... Schneider taking on the Brizzy defence and sprinting around Mal Michael towards goal. A fantastic display of confidence there, as well as pure speed.

Brisbane may be big & tough, but as that play demonstrated, it means nothing if they can't catch their opposition!
