One for all, all for one

Very enjoyable article from Martin Flanagan, probably the most evocative footy writer going around at the moment.

I know I am biased toward Martin Flanagan due to the Tasmanian thing but I have always loved his articles, especially when he writes about the indigenous players.
The relations of LRT that he mentions were not just your run of the mill sportsmen or doctors either. He was right when he said they had class. Even the farming Roberts-Thompsons here on the NW coast do it with style.
Martin Flanagan and I have a friend in common, David Masters, but I have never met Martin. David would have to be one of the funniest and generous people around so I trust his judgement about people. Heres to Martin Flanagan.

Started crying again reading that article. STOP IT SATCH

My favourite sport journo, manages to have his head in the fresh air and his feet firmly in the grass roots. And such a contrast with the nitpicking Tim Lane on the same page next to him, griping about the way we play. Funny to think they both love the same game.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I was going to post that link too, a writer with a real flourish is Flanagan. He gives you another side of football and is perceptive in his view of players.

Yep, love Flanagan's writing, and this article is no exception - love the comparison with rugby... "Ours is the game they play in the dreamtime".

Here's another Flanagan article that I hadn't read before. If any of us have ever suspected that Flanagan saves some of his best writing for the Swans, this one contains a clue as to why that is.
