    West Australian Swans

Well i think fellow sydney supporters who live in the west, can all agree that at the moment the best place to be seen in sydney gear is on the streets of perth !

When leaving to head off to melbourne last week, my family and i were decked out in red and white gear. when we arrived at the aiport we were gretted with boo's and jeers from everyother single person in that aiport, although some people had the decency to wish us good luck (probley docker fans), when sitting down waiting for the plane to leave i went to buy a newspaper..and what happens when i go do that, everyone in the whole depature longue starts booing again..i felt uneasy, for if we lost we would be flying back with a whole lot of eagles fans who'd remember us

But then a little something happened on the 24th of september, and my fears of that were put to rest

the best part was flying back to perth the next morning, so i wear my SYDNEY SWANS PREMIERS t-shirt to the airport...and guess what were flying back with all the eagles players

but still i persist, just giving a gentle smile to all those quite eagles fans who envy the team who stole their glory, the players ignore me (as i expect) but some of the younger rookies (ashley hanson, adam selwood) strike conversation, and i wish them the best for next year as i try to come across as a grascious winner

but the best part is arrving at perth airport at 1.00pm sunday afternoon ..hundreds of eagles fans had come to the airport to wish them a welcome back, but when we came out with our swans gear, the boo's started again, the mean faces were evident, but all i did was show em the premiers t-shirt and they had no comeback...riding back home we stuck the swans flag out the window, and experienced a diverse range of reactions, from people giving us the finger, and others giving us thumbs up

but it is not all swell , as now many swans fans here are righfully parading around in swans gear (including myself)...but the stories ive heard from fellow swans fans who have been showing their colours in public are nothing short of horrific, one guy had a bottle thrown at him, other was called a ******* ******* ***** infront of his kids...luckly i havent experienced this

what can i say...what a great state to be in, the feedback i get is worthit, as long as i get one comment (either negative or positive regarding sydney)

yeah great story mate and you had the last laugh alright

us red and white sandgropers have to really give it to these arrogant and cocky WC fans over the next year - they have no comeback to "swans 2005 premiers"

I'm just happy it wasn't Geelong we played (even though it would be great to beat Geelong in the GF) because I'm still wearing my Swans t-shirts every day and still getting cheers and nods and congratulations

Wore my Swans polo shirt and bucket hat (the one JF wants!) to the Royal Show on the Sunday and my daughter wore the scarf. There were the odd other Swans colour wearers and as we passed , total strangers, we were drawn to each other and "Go the Swans" was the exchange. Not too loud so as not to be seen as arrogant. Only got one negative comment. One young chap walking in opposite direction said "Swans are @@@@" but he was gone before I could come back with a rejoinder.

The reporting in the newspapers over here was atrocious! Hardly any reporting on the Swans and how they won. Just on the "brave" Eagles and "why they lost". One of the reporters in the West , Ray Wilson, wrote a particularly gushing sentence about Adam Hunter's role in the game and wrote :
"Hunter, built like the proverbial outhouse..." gush, gush, gush.

It was a long weekend in WA so I penned a letter to the Editor asking why they had let all of their sports reporters go away for the long weekend considering it was the AFL Grand Final and instead let a bunch of West Coast Eagles fans write the stories and that Ray Wilson should know that Adam Hunter was built like an outhouse because that is where he wrote his stories from.

                It wasn't published.

Perhaps westernswan should head down to Fremantle for a day. The Purple Army are a welcoming bunch, judging by dockerland.com.

I saw you on the news westernswan coming through the airport along with the Eagles team, amid much booing. You've got balls.

At least things have been slightly more civilised here in Brisbane. Most of the responses I've got have been 'good on ya' with a couple (like whinging Scott at work) saying that Leo should never have been paid that mark because all the other Swans were hanging on to the Weagles.

A couple have also said, 'Good on you, see you when you've won three in a row :-)' admittedly said with a big smile on their faces and, what comeback can you have for that :-)

That's great to hear, WS. Jeffers was entirely correct -- we got jeered by Weagles fans the night before, chanting "Losers! Losers!" amongst other things... But my love for the game transcends even my team and the opposition supporters.

Nontheless, I have enjoyed watching Adam Selwood this year. He's not flashy, good looking, overtly arrogant, but that's what I like. He does his job well, has a good sense of humour and I can't wait to see how his game develops in the forthcoming seasons.
I searched high and low when in Melbourne for a Selwood badge, and there were none. Assumed he must be pretty popular with the Wiggles fans, so I had to settle for a Hirdy one instead.

Anyone know when Adam is out of contract???
And you can't find nothing at all,
If there was nothing there all along.
