Interesting to see if they still chase Spida given they have their first round draft pick, plus saddington/powell that want out of Sydney or are they hoping of getting another Jolly scenario unfold going for a back up ruckman, and the success they had with that.Premiers 09,18,33,05

I don't think Noggy is a great defensive midfielder. He has the ability to become an attacking one, and I think its time we gave him the green light to play that role.
As for Chambers, can't say I'm too impressed by it, although I wasn't either by the Jolly trade last year.Comment

Anyone seen this Paul Chambers fellow play before - I have heard of him but never seen him.
Is this insurance in case the spida deal fails - or is it destined to fail already.............I suspect the hawks are not that intelligent.
They surely aren't going to offer him a massive 2 year deal when his contract is up next season - they might not get a cracker for him next yearComment

And I would say Spida is now off our shopping list!! (hopefully)Comment

Clearly the Spida deal is now off.
I imagine we will still try for Ted Richards but wouldn't mind trading Saddo and Powell for a first round or early second round pick.

Ablett has the potential to be a crucial part of our midfield because he has the big solid body that most of the rest of our players lack.
I'm slightly underwhelmed by the idea of Chambers, though a late second round pick is not a huge cost. Last year I thought the Jolly trade was a decent one right from the start, but Chambers seemed to struggle to get a game for the Cats even when Ottens was injured.
He wasn't in their SF team (nor was Blake). Was he injured at that stage?
However, maybe Shaw can step up this year - not as a major contributor but at least to show he will be a future AFL ruckman. I think it may still be another year before we can get a handle on whether Erikson will ever make it, unless he has a monster off-season in the gym.
Does this trade mean that they've given up the Spida deal? You'd have to think so, surely?Comment

I think there's still a hell of lot of improvement left in him. Like Pebbles, he needs to be more consistent but his best is very good already.Comment

NOG and Ryan shouldn't go anywhere, we can't get these guys to the point that they will win games for us and then let them go....that is st george in the leagues idea....we have to hold onto such dynamic players...
forget spida....its all old news now re him with the swans......
chalmers eh....hmmmm.....you know what they say, dirty pants- clean bottyComment

I suspect Chambers is the insurance for Doyle and Doyle should be ahead of Chambers at the start of the season.
I wasn't too impressed with his work in the R15 game, and I thought Blake was the better ruckman in his debut game.Comment
