I got it from here:
Seizing the moment
There is ever and always a loneliness about empty stadiums, and never moreso than at night. The wind merely whistles softly where the crowd is meant to roar, the shadows are long where the lights are meant to be shining brightly. But wait! Look there!
It is just before eight o'clock last Saturday night at the MCG, long after the 90,000-strong throng has gong home. It is all dark, sure, but look closer. Yes, I think that's them, the Swanees themselves, heading out into the middle of the pitch It is! All 30 of them, with Paul Roos, in their red tracksuit tops, heading quietly out to the centre. What are they doing now? Why, they're standing in a circle, around something shining in the moonlight, yes ? the AFL cup! Now listen ? Can you hear the strains, just reaching us on every puff of wind?
" Cheer ? cheer ? the red and the white ? by day and by night ? onwards to victory!"
And now the job is done as, walking in a tight group, they head to the sheds. Step back now, back into the shadows. This is their moment, not ours.
