Nicks is injured, I think. Even if he has got fit again, I would still like to see him playing a couple of ressies before being considered for serious. He no longer demands automatic selection, me thinks.

Hunt would always be behind LRT in the queue. I would love to see him getting few games this year though, but not this week in place of Powell. Two games is a bit too short of a spell. Probably Hunt or Sundquist or Macelski should be in line to take over Powell's spot in couple of weeks time.

He is obviously going to say that. He's not up himself it seems. Nicks would be in the first 10 I would pick to play every week. He played the first five games, he has only missed the last two, he will not be that underdone.

this was genuine, he wasnt too happy (not being out there training) and i dont think by the impression that i got from him that he wont be playing ressies this week even

he wasnt playing up to his standard IMO, missing easy shots on goal and getting frustrated and giving away silly free kicks, i think he needs a bit to get back some confidence... couldnt hurt him...

I also think Nicks should come back via the reserves. We have not seen him play to his potential for a long time now , so a little time for him to find some form would be good. If everyone just comes straight back in on the basis of what they used to do, this team will nose dive sooner or later, and probabley a whole lot sooner rather than later, and for a lot longer time !!!!

He has missed 2 weeks, he will not be too underdone, if hes fit, i know i'd have him in the best 22.

You've got no idea would probably do it, but I will elaborate for you.

He is generally fit all year round, there is nothing wrong with his endurance what so ever. He has no trouble running out a game.

He is not soft, if you look at the stats he is right up there in hard ball gets.

Rarely goes missing as far as I'm concerned.

He is one of the hardest workers at the club.

Does it when the pressure is on unlike some of the other imposters.

Plays well against every side normally.

Waste of space? what a joke, he is one of our more important players.

There is one thing about Nicks though that has to be addressed and that is that IMO he plays his best football off a half back flank, where he played in his early years. If he goes back to the half backline rather than the half forwardline, i think we might just see the best of Matthew Nicks.

I think the fact he has gone from a Half Back Flanker to a winger to a forward shows either his fitness is not good enough to play his old positions or he has lost his pace and form.

He is a good player but I wouldn't bring him back from his injuries without a run in the twos for a match or two first. Also this should apply to most players as well.

One problem with Nicks is that his chasing has no urgency. I dont know if it is his laziness or it is his fitness but if you watch closely, his chasing is token at best. One pace, slow as you go, zoning the opposition. As soon as the opposition up the pace, he gives up.

If he is going to get back to the defense, he needs to learn how to play in the last line of defense. He was found out by the opposition few years back in that position.

I think the days of one-position mid-180cm flankers is over. In that role, Kennelly is a better option at the moment anyway.

I'm not so sure that the stats are kind to Nicks.

73% of his kicks this year have come in first halves - compare that to our fittest players who can run out games:

Maxfield - 35% of his kicks are in the last quarter alone
Fosdike - 30% of his kicks are in the last quarter
Crouch - 36% of his kicks are in the last quarter

Even Jude has lifted himself to the point that 26% of his kicks are coming in final quarters.
