    World Champions

Now that the swans are premiers do you think we can take the american view fo them being world champions as no one else plays the sport?

"Sydney Swans - world beaters" does not sound to bad to me, although i hate copying americans as much as the next person.

I'm with you. Do you think New Zealand (International Cup winners) could have beaten us?

A similar thread was started on BigFooty.

We're not american, please dont do this.

Premiers of Australia is enough for me.
That's the problem with modern day medicine - there's no more natural selection of the species.
No wonder there's so many Collingwood fans.

LOL had this debate the other day at work. I truly do hate the world champion thing the Americans love doing, however I guess no other team in the world who has won an Aussie Rules comp would beat us.... Still don't like it though!

I remember cringing in 1997 when we played North at the SCG and the announcer kept referring to it as a replay of the world championship bout from 1996..

I'm against the Yanks calling their baseballers World Champions as well, especially as that game is played pretty well around the world (who's got the Olympic Silver Medal - not them).

But, what's good for the goose is good for the gander and I'd love to see how San Francisco or Los Angeles would go against us - considering last time I heard John Ironmonger was still playing in the national league over there.

Don't see how the AFL can have world champions, or any sport for that matter unless you are competing on a international level

Interestingly the World Series name came about because of the "World" newspaper.

But of course stupid Americans would be the only people to have the temerity to call their champions "World Champions".

We are AFL Premiers, and that is that.

                World Champions of what?

                We are the AFL Premiers.

                Plain and simple!
Well done Craig Bolton for getting the co- captaincy in 2008.

Please no American bull********. We are the AFL premiers, and that's good enough for me. We should not go down the league route of such nonsense as the Rugby League World Cup. Our game is the best and we do not need to build it up with false claims and titles. Leave this to the other loser codes.

World Champions.....rubbish idea. The only think I could think of worse than that would be premiership rings and the norm smith ring. Bling Bling Bulldust.
