    Journalistic Hacks

Listening to SEN this arvo I heard that doyen of Journos Scott Gullan answering questions about the Trade Week.

Now this is the bloke who always comes last in the tipping in the Herald Sun. Why does he come last? Well he just refuses to rate us and rarely picks us to win. He was going well until we got on a roll, then plummeted to the bottom of the heap.

He and that other Journo hack from the same rag, Jon Anderson, left us out of the 8. Gullan for the second year running.

I have referred to Ando before as being our barometer for the season. If he doesn't rate us we go well. If he rates us we invariably have a poor season.

So now it is the "Anderson/Gullan Factor" when assessing our chances. Any chance they will downgrade our chances in 2006 because we could not play the game style and succeed 2 years running.

Note that these 2 hacks had Port, Brisbane, Collingwood and Essendon in their 8 while Ando threw in the Dees for good measure and Scotty had Freo in. Ando also showed his class by picking Adelaide for the spoon and Schammer for the Brownlow.

At this time of the year Ando fancies himself as a Cup tipster, but hasn't backed a winner since Phar Lap.

Nico, Mark Stevens is almost as bad.

Most "journalists" from the Melbourne centric Hun never rate an interstate side. The problem with Hun journos is they never actually get outside of Melbourne, so have no idea about any other club. The only reason they salivate over WCE at the moment is because of Judd. They all want him back playing for a Victorian club.

Journos from The Age tend to have a broader view of the game. Timmy Watson and Carro excepted.

Isn't Carro painful...I reckon she has the hots for Eddie Everywhere though as she is always talking about him and the Footy Show.

I forget who they were refering to, but the other day someone said of a female journo "they're going to be the next Carro", I thought to myself, "what a horrible thing to wish on anybody"

I've predicted that if the Swans won a Grand Final the Hun would headline that the other team lost and they'd bet that the Swans couldn't maintain the lucky streak the next week. But I never thought that we'd have a chance to see how true that is.

Some journos have seen the Swans class and determination but most think we strung together a few lucky wins. That, and AD's criticism sets us up perfectly for next season. The players see that they still haven't got the respect they are due and others still undervalue us.

I find it annoying. I bet the players are infuriated. Back to back would be so sweet - but then we'd just hear how inferior the Swans are to the Lions.

On the other hand, I love hearing fans of other clubs refer to a loss to the Swans this year as a defeat by the eventual premiers.

          Jon Anderson = painfull.

To hear this bloke every morning on 3AW at 7.30am talking sh**e in stuttering clipped tones about his mighty Cats and how great they are bores me to tears and distraction.....

"She who must always be obeyed" leaves for work at 7.37am, whereby I tune into SEN to hear some decent sporting journo's - bar Andrew Maher of course....

I reckon Anderson didn't pick the Swans no more than fives up to Round 20, whereby he got on the bandwagon for Round 21 & 22 and then back off again for the finals. He is a first class putz, along with John Barnes on the Fox Footy show League Teams on Thursday night's....

Barnesy really deserves a mention as, every week without fail from Round 15 onwards he would state that the Swans play great team footy, they are the fittest team in the comp, this or that player is a superstar, Roosy is a great coach ra ra ra, whereby he would then pick the opposition in an upset - go figure...
Well somebody told me, You had a boyfriend, Who looks like a girlfriend,That I had in February of last year, It's not confidential, I've got potential

Somebody told me, The Killers, Hot Fuss, 2004.

To their credit, they didn't though - I still have the front page, along with just about every newspaper from the GF win

They led with a huge picture of Baz holding the cup with "AT LAST" in big letters screaming out from the bottom of the page.

Granted, they were only trying to play up the South Melbourne connection to sell a few papers, so this wasn't really "to their credit". If the Swans had always been a Sydney team I'm sure they would have found a way to headline the other team losing!

The Hun is a Melbourne paper. It reports with a Victorian bias, almost always, in every aspect. I read the Hun every day - And I don't know why ... I used to read the Age, but the broadsheet and the room it used to take, plus the invariable 10 trees on Saturday, made me change.

I have learned that Sydney's opposition will always lose the game (according to the Hun) because of the Victorian slant. They try to appease their readers with something positive out of the near catastrophy we enforced on them - They are reporting FOR 10 Victorian teams. Sydneysiders will notice that in the SMH, the Swans will probably win all those games.

This has little to do with individual reporters. Despite what we know about freedom of speech and the written word, reporters still have to follow the editor's wishes - and he/she follows their boss' wishes ... Until you are all the way back to the Rupert Murdoch's of this world.

I don't blame the reporters, I just ignore them and log onto RWO (now ... thanks) and get my own biased opinion ...

Where you can read coverage without fear or favour. Did you happen to chance upon the news that the Swans soundly beat every team of note and WON THE 2005 PREMIERSHIP?

I used to hate the broadsheet. They've changed it to a smaller form now. Much better. I like the age, but the Sun always seems to have more football. Anyone read both who can comment on that?

The liitle paper has more football but it is a crap paper IMO.

The size of the big paper has always been a put off for me, but my sister works there and said that it will be getting into a smaller profile, but not as small as the little paper which is tabloid size.
