Who will Sydney draft w/ picks 52, 55 and 61?

Okay, who's it going to be? Unless the club suddenly starts getting very brutal with the existing list, it's unlikely we'll take more than 3 picks.

I'd be interested to see what people think. But here's some names that have come up that I reckon are worth thinking about:

Sam Gilbert (Queensland-- although actually he comes from just the NSW side of the border, 192cm defender)
Daniel Dzufer (Queensland, 189cm forward-- although a very good result in the 3km time trial at camp may bump him up out of our range)
    Chris Cain (Victoria, 180cm forward)
    Andrew Ainger (Victoria, 194cm forward)
    Ed Lower (SA, 186cm defender)
Nick Lower (SA, 187cm midfielder/utility-- and yes, he's Ed's twin brother).

I'm confining myself to people who are at least some chance of being available by this stage in the draft, i.e. not Marc Murphy, Xavier Ellis and Josh Kennedy (nor even Todd Grima and Ryan Jackson). Speculation about James Podsiadly is now reaching plague proportions. I've also deliberately left out NSW players (the only NSW rep at draft camp Dylan Addison particularly leaps to mind) because I haven't actually seen them play, and hopefully some people who respond, will have.

    Thoughts?

If Dylan Addison doesn't get picked up in the main draft he will
be a chance to be chosen by the swans with one of their 3 priority pick zone selections in the rookie draft.

He played for N.S.W. in the Under 18's for the last 2 years

He played for the Swans reserves including the Grand Final

He was the only N.S.W. player invited to the draft camp

I would think Gilbert and Dzufer will go higher than Pick 51 and only one of the Lower twins is any good ,Nick.
Realistically we will probably get a handy ready-made type and maybe some young kids that would go high in 2006.
NSW have a couple of handy rookie types in Addison,Keiren Jack and Adam Prior so we can just hope that they get through so we can rookie them.

Have heard that Sydney are interested in Cook, Gilbert, Iles and Cheetham. Anyone else heard this or something different?

We're definitely interested in Iles b/c a Tassie newspaper reported that he's spent a week with the Swans (couldn't be bothered hunting down link now-- sorry).

All of the others would be worthy picks, but we'll need plenty of strings to our bow because (while none is likely to go top 30) there's no guarantee that any or all of them might not go before #52.

PS He could have been talking about neither Ryan Cook nor Troy Cook, but several-years-ago-Crows-castoff Sudjai Cook! Too many Cooks in the AFL are clearly spoiling the broth.

Llane Spaanderman with our last pick (61 or 67). He was delisted by Brisbane.

Not for his ability, nor his looks. But for the name.

That's about the first thing today that has brought a smile to my face.

                    Thanks, I needed it!

Personally, i think we should be looking for a mobile tall key defender. There is only realistically so much our small guys can do and for so long.
Need someone to go with the Big forwards that i think will start to reappear in the game at other clubs.

It is rumoured in Bigfooty on the Brisbane board that we are interested in drafting delisted rookie Travis Baird. I don't know too much about him. Is he a KPP?

Something of a "smokey" pick in the 2004 rookie draft, Baird repaid the faith of the Lions' recruiting staff in 2005 with some outstanding performances in the AFLQ, senior elevation and a pair of AFL games.

The 19-year-old started the season playing in defence for the Suncoast Lions but it was during stints up forward and in the midfield that he really showed the talent that resulted in him being promoted to the senior list, when Martin Pike went down with a long-term injury. Baird was called up straight into the senior side for the Round 19 win over Hawthorn and kicked a great goal on the run from 45m with one of his early touches. He retained his spot in the team for the Round 20 trip to Sydney.

Hailing from the Victorian country town of Donald, Baird was considered highly enough by the Lions recruiting team for them to move away from the usual practice of rookie listing all Queenslanders. He had suffered an injury-interrupted 2004, which impacted on his chances in the National Draft, but can play in a number of positions, takes a strong mark, and is a well skilled on both sides of the body.

Well I think we can offer him a lower guernsey number as a start.

Ainger is a 192 cm forward who is a prospect. Gilbert might still be available. He is a good mark and a dasher off the half back line. Brad Kelleher from Victoria, 188cm and 82 kg might still be available. He can play. Haydn Kiel, Nathan Isles are midfielders who might still be available too. Dylan Addison, Kieren Jack and James Bennett are rookie list prospects. Don't forget Jarryd Sunquist- he might be redrafted if he is the best prospect around. Is he still training with us? What do others think of nathan Twomey as a possibility?
