Swans hoping to secure Kennelly?s signature

    A ****-tease article.

The Chief Executive of the Sydney Swans AFL club has expressed the hope that Kerry?s Tadhg Kennelly will sign a new contract and stay for at least another two years down under.

    Clutching at straws, they are.

PS: are we able to use the swear filter to pick up the incorrect spelling of Tadhg on other pages? You'd assume they'd be able to spell it.

PPS: Moo, you have a ****? Who would have thunk it?

It would be a massive boost for 2006 if Tadhg signed a 2-year extension. Sadly, I don't think that's going to happen.

If he does go he will be sorely missed, but I say good on him - got to follow your dream!

Has he been named in the Irish side this year or is he taking a break?

No he's not in the Irish team this year. I think he's recovering from minor surgery.

Surgery? *cough* I thought is was an excuse to go home for 6 weeks and not have to come back out to play.

That said, after his efforts this year, he deserves it. I sincerely hope he realises that he belongs by Bondi beach, with his mates at the club for a few years longer... it only takes a day to fly home. But now I am being selfish.

I suppose the real problem is that when he leaves, the Swans get nothing for him as they can't trade with anyone.

I don't blame him for not wanting to go home but he could still play in his 30's there and create his own history.

I think people need to put this into perspective. He was talking to an irish newspaper, while in Ireland. It wouldnt be well recieved if he said, when asked if he was going to return to Ireland, to say No!
Instead he gives some wishy washy response about wanting to return to ireland in the future. He can do that when he is 30.

The Kennelly situation is a tough one. Hard to begrudge him his dream for sure - particularly after reaching the AFL summit this year. But as i've said before on RWO Gaelic football is a much less physical game and one he could slot into easily at 29/30 after a couple more years of intense AFL. Whether he sees it that way or not is another thing.

One thing for sure is that we'd miss him. He was a real X factor in the GF, and was surely in our three best. His game was a cracker.

I live in the bush, so don't get to the games much now but the last time I went there some guy was calling out "Future Captain" every time he went near the ball. I had to agree. Perhaps this inducement, plus a big fat contract, is what he needs to stay. The SMH reported him as being on 250k a year - surely he is worth more than that if you balance him against other players in the comp. He'd be a bargain at 400k surely.

Keyhole surgery on his ankle 3 days after the GF.

Joanne isn't buying it either, she is cursing the club thinking its them that won't let him play. I think he deserves a break after playing every minute of every game this season.
