"All I remember about the end of the game was Nic (Fosdike) coming over and jumping on me as I didn't hear the siren, the Tasmanian said.

"He came over and jumped on me and I said 'what are you doing you idiot' and then he said 'the siren has gone' and I said 'hey' and we started hugging and being silly on the ground.

The fact that someone who was instrumental in us getting to the GF but almost missed out highlights another issue that I reckon sucks.

I really think there should be some sort of medal for every player who was part of the team over the whole season when a team wins a premiership.
It really sucks that Maxie was captain for half the season and ends up with nothing.
You could be lucky enough to get your first senior game in a GF (maybe through injuries) and end up with a medal!

My point is that it is more than the 22 who play that day that make it possible for a team to achieve grand final success and they all should be rewarded.

                Bill James.

Richmond's star full-forward was a late withdrawal through injury for the 1920 GF. James was in the crowd (so the story goes; Richmond must have had some claim to him, although this could have been hastily arranged if the right people were in town). He was a 20 year old from Kyabram, and he'd never played VFL footy before. Richmond, desperate for a forward, put him in the team that became their first premiership side.

It was his first and last game. A shooting accident over Summer permanently injured his foot, and he never played footy again at any level.

and people laugh at me when I wear my boots to the footy (and when I say that I don't shoot)

Only the players that have played in the side that season, no one else.

Like relay heat swimmers/runners, they all get a medal, just not the accolades.
