We chose Bigpond cable too, only because ADSL wasn't really suitable for our home for various reasons. They have improved, reliability has been OK but have already had a few outages since May.

I've watched AFL video through afl.com.au, and while a decent substitute for Fox Footy if I really, really want to watch a certain quarter again , the quality's a little disappointing (though is not too bad - on a par with VHS at the max bandwidth).

But at least afl.com.au is a bigpond unmetered site so I can watch as much as I want and it doesn't count towards our monthly usage!

Because work is paying for it...at Telstra is its preferred supplier...I don't mind, I don't have to pay for it and it's great. No probs with Bigpond here.

There must be a difference between the ADSL and cable streams because I can't even read the blurry clock and all the players arms have nasty rectangular jagginess against the grass. Way, way worse than VHS for me.

I get that too sometimes - tends to be erratic. But at the highest bandwidth stream, I can read the clock pretty comfortably and there's not much jagginess at all. It's only like this about half, maybe 3/4 the time if it's a good stream though.

Try changing the "folder" to another year. EG:

mms://wmt.streaming.telstra.com/wh_afl0/afl/premiership/2004/EF/2-560.wmv

EDIT: Note that 2003 games are slightly better quality, so the file names for that year end in "600.wmv" instead of "560.wmv". Games from 2002 are "256.wmv".

Hmmm. ADSL2 was the same as cable from what I understood.
ie 12M instead of the 1.5M you get from normal ADSL. At least that's what I get with my cable.

I'm curious to know who you're ISP is for $10 cheaper though.

ADSL2 is. ADSL2+ is double the speed.

The provider is Internode.
