    2005 In review.

In the absences of the stats Guru, NMW, I have benn having a look at the season. I split the season into 1st 10, last 12, as this was when the season really turned around for us.

    H&A.

    Qtrs won -
    48/88 (55% - 22 rounds)
    16/40 (40% - 1st 10 Rnds, 5 Wins 5 Losses)
    32/48 (66% - last 12 Rnds, 10W, 2L)

    11/22 1st qtrs won
    12/22 2nd qtrs won
    12/22 3rd qtrs won
    13/22 4th qtrs won

    Average score For/Against
    90/76 - (22 Rnds)
    77/85 - (1st 10 Rnds)
    100/69 (Last 12 Rnds)

    Average score per Qtrs for/against
    (22 Rnds)
    1st 22/17
    2nd 22/19
    3rd 23/22
    4th 23/19

    (1st 10)
    16/19
    19/18
    22/24
    21/24

    (Last 12)
    26/15
    25/20
    24/21
    24/14

    Finals

    Qtrs Won
    9/16 (75%)

    2/4 1st qtrs won
    2/4 2nd qtrs won
    2/4 3rd qtrs won
3/4 4th qtrs won (The 1 loss was the QF v WC)

    Average score For/Against
    86/60

    Average score per Qtrs for/against
    21/20
    12/12
    12/15
    25/14

The last qtrs were definitely our strong points over the latter part of the season and carried into the finals (as most of us will remember )

In 20 games the winner of the last qtr won the game out of 26.
We only lost 2 games where we won the last qtr, against Richmond and Adelaide(in Ade)

    I hope these makes sense.

      NMW wannabe!

      I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Really interesting Scott - and yep, you need to get out more. But these stats match what has been said in more philosophical form since the Premiership win. Although the Swans had the hardest run through the finals, they ran other teams off their legs in the last Q (the Saints PF especially).

I posted something like this early in the season - the Swans seem to have superior fitness to every other team in the comp so if they are close enough at 3/4 time we'll win. And have better fitness by a considerably measure. It doesn't make sense that we can get battered by the Cats while the Saints watch the game on GT's TV and then the next week it's the Saints that tire first.

Tactically we know Roos is good (but can be outcoached). But (maybe it's his US connections) his (and our other coaches') excellent training of elite athletes gave us a premiership. That was certainly aided by the way he instilled an empowering ethos so they would play past the stage when they should have dropped.
