"Kennelly will find it hard to say bye"

Or at least that's what someone else thinks.

"Irish star Sean Cavanagh believes the everlasting bond Sydney's Tadhg Kennelly has formed with his AFL premiership teammates will make it tougher to return to his Gaelic roots."

    Also, for something new,

"O'Keefe, meanwhile, is close to signing a new contract with the Swans."

    See here

ETA: I just realised how out of context the quote from O'Keefe is about Tadgh staying to "help out his mates". It's used in another article in relation to the International Rules loss. That's journalism at its very best.

An Irish journo who was on radio last week said he thought Kennelly would eventually return home but when his contract expires will see what "Sydney has to offer".

Realistically, he could probably sign for another three years and then return home at 28 and still be good enough to win an All Ireland

I will be very disappointed and a touch angry if he were to leave at 25. Yes, he has played in a premiership, and yes we knew that he was never going to be a 12-15 year player.

However, after the work that the club has put into him, I feel that the Swans deserve to have him play at his peak for us. I'd be much more accepting if he were to leave at 27 or 28 than at 25.

I'm with you on that Charlie. But the talk of his leaving was just for the home audience I feel. If he left in 3 years or so, he could be set up for life. And will have repaid the commitment the Swans have given him.

                Hehe.

i think he has paid the club back, if he wanted to go to another club it would be annoying. But it must be hard being in another country, no matter how much fun you have. If he wants to go home anytime, it will suck cos he is great. But it would be fine!

Obviously for all of us the longer he stays the better. Let's hope some of this conjecture is just an Irish Press beat-up.

Did he take out Australian citizenship at some stage?

Yeah either last year or 2004 on Australia day if I remember rightly.
