Jared Brennan will take out the rising star award this year, on form so far. Very impressed - how did the lions win the flag AND pick up this kid?!?!

I'll be happy with AS if he just keeps going the way he's going.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

So he's been taking the knock's for years but at a lower level of competition.

I'd be getting a few dollars on him for Rising Star, although he's got some significant opposition this year.
I think Roos will begin easing Schneider into the midfield later on this year ... with him playing against big blokes for so long, it will be very interesting to see the impact he has ..

I didn't think Brennan was THAT great on the weekend.

7 possessions. No real impact. Schneider certainly had a bigger impact on the game than Brennan did IMO.

Was reading on the Brisbane board, and they were saying other than his first game he hasn't been that good.

          - Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in a world they've been given, than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact, it's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration, it's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing!

Agreed. Brennan hasn't made as big an impact as is being made out, and I'd give Schneider the nod ahead of him. These are his stats:

vs. Collingwood 10 kicks, 4 handballs, 6 marks, 1 goal.
vs. Bulldogs 11 kicks, 0 handballs, 9 marks, 2 goals.
vs. Geelong 3 kicks, 2 handballs, 2 marks, 0 goals.
vs. Sydney 6 kicks, 1 handball, 5 marks, 1 goal.

Yes, he's been very good for a bloke in his first month of AFL footy... but he's not making an impact of Riewoldt-type proportions or anything. In fact, Schneider has approximately the same numbers and probably a better debut.

vs. Carlton 14 kicks, 0 handballs, 9 marks, 2 goals.
vs. Fremantle 7 kicks, 2 handballs, 2 marks, 0 goals.
vs. Adelaide 4 kicks, 2 handballs, 1 handball, 1 goal.
vs. Hawthorn 7 kicks, 4 handballs, 5 marks, 1 goal.
vs. Melbourne 9 kicks, 4 handballs, 3 marks, 3 goals.
vs. Collingwood 5 kicks, 4 handballs, 4 marks, 2 goals.
vs. Brisbane 6 kicks, 1 handball, 1 mark, 2 goals.

So, a comparison of averages (rounded to nearest .1) reveals:
            Schneider 7.4 kicks, 2.4 handballs, 3.6 marks, 1.6 goals
            Brennan 7.5 kicks, 1.6 handballs, 5.5 marks, 1 goal.

So really, all that Brennan is better at is taking a few grabs. But Schneider can do his bit as well... how many blokes shorter than 6' have you seen take 9 marks on debut?
            We hate Anthony Rocca
            We hate Shannon Grant too
            We hate scumbag Gaspar
            But Leo WE LOVE YOU!

Maybe Mathews made a rare mistake and over pumped him after the game. (taking him to the press confrance and all!)

I think Brennan, was given a lesson by Mickey(2,3,4 qauters) but it will be one he can sit down with the coaches and relaise what he should have done and do in the future he will better player for this and so will the loins must be nice to be able to give your kids these sort of jobs knowing the out come most likely won't effect your season.

To be honest I doubt either Brennan or Schneider will win the RS. My money is probably on someone like Goddard. He's had a couple of BOGs already by the sound of it.

aswell as luke ball who must be averaging about 20 possesions a game

Yeh Lizz Goddard is the man at the moment. Down here in melbourne he really is the flavour in terms of youngsters and has played 2 very good games in a row, Ball is not to far behind him either.
Schnieder will poll better in the RS than Kennelly did last year however my money is on Goddard or Ball at this stage.
