    Irish players

Why have we never recruited any irish players since Kennelly?

With the outstanding result from Kennelly (bypassing the whole draft process), I would have thought we have at least 1 player every 2 years coming through the same pipeline.

    Is it too expensive ?

Vicky Pollard: Oh my god I so can't believe you just said that this is like the time I threw Anita's nokia in the canal as a joke and she's like you have well got to buy me another one and I'm like get over it and then Paul came over who's adopted anyway and started saying that I fancy Mark Bennett but oh my god just because I have sex with someone doesn't mean I fancy them.

Yeah we actually had him out here for two weeks too in the pre-season last year from memory.

It must be very hard for players with great futures ahead of them in Ireland to travel halfway around the globe at 16 or 17 (any older and it becomes difficult to learn the game). Apart from the homesickness and massive change in weather, there is also all of the pressure associated with pro sport, a real lack of communal support, and the pressure from those back home who expect them to play GAA.

I reckon it may be better to try nations with a much less passionate local comp. Like the US or GB. But why invest all the money when there is plenty of untapped talent in the massive NSW sports market as is?

I dont really buy that, given the number of Irish backpackers who visit Australia for 12 months + and the history of Irish immigration to this country and elsewhere. Not that I have another answer

It's certainly confusing. I think it'd be a good investment sending a scout over there for a month once a year. Even if we only got a senior player every four or five years, we should be aiming to attract one player per year.
