    AFL spending in NSW

There was just a article on Ch10 about Demetriou outlining the planned (extra?) spending in Sydney and NSW to capitalise on the Swans win.

They mentioned that $8m would be spent to build extra AFL grounds in Sydney and getting AFL in to many more schools.

Dunno if this was different from what was expected or already planned?
That's the problem with modern day medicine - there's no more natural selection of the species.
No wonder there's so many Collingwood fans.

Yes getting AFL in more High Schools would help.

But I thought the TV coverage in NSW is the most essential

Bit harsh on Channel 10 don't you think? They've been great for footy in NSW. Channel 9 on the other hand, well, hopefully that will be corrected with the next broadcasting agreement. The signs are looking good with FTA TV coverage in NSW and QLD a key priority of the AFL along with increased funding for grassroots development:

Improving the television scheduling of AFL matches in the Sydney free-to-air market is a priority for the code, according to league chief executive Andrew Demetriou.

Questioned at a Sydney luncheon yesterday, Demetriou refused to discuss details of the negotiations but acknowledged coverage of the game in Sydney was a key point for the AFL, in particular securing prime time free-to-air coverage for the previously delayed Friday night matches.

"I'll probably have a little bit of a say in it, and I can say at the top of our priorities in the next broadcast rights round is enhanced coverage on Friday night in Sydney, and in regional areas in NSW and Queensland," Demetriou said. "And it's something that has been a learning experience from the previous five-year agreement so make no mistake, that has been made very clear and we are aware of it.

Demetriou also confirmed that a submission would go before the AFL commission, most likely within the next fortnight, for a big increase in the $8 million spent annually on development of the game in Sydney and NSW as the code looks to springboard off the Swans' title win.
