Don't worry about your grief, it was nothing compared to the canning I copped from about 300 Bombout supporters around me after bagging the Bombouts and particularly that donkey Alessio all day, only for Alessio to kick the matchwinner, four goals and play the best game for the Bombouts in five years.......

As I have lived in the Essendon area most of my life and know a couple of dozen Bombout fans, the phone never bl**dy stopped for the next three hours....

I remember that game too. When Alessio was lining up for goal, I got a call from Norris Lurker, I knew what he wanted, which was to know how long there was to go. I simply answered the phone and said "23 seconds, you bastard!" and hung up.

What cheered me up was the memory of my dad (a johnny come lately Bombers fan who's 1st game was the 84 GF as a free guest of an MCC member) smashing the tv remote into my school calculator when we beat them by 169 points (might be out on the margin) when we had those huge 3 weeks in 87. I bought the highlights video that has the last quarter of that game - how sweet it is!!!
