Just thought I might offer some info on the little WA midfielder Brabazon,
played 19 games for claremont colts and 2 in the ressies, kicked 19 goals at colt level and was named ruck-rover in the WAFL Colts team of the year. He won both the Jack Clarke Medal and the coaches award for best colts...

Don't forget people, anything outside the top 16 picks are just a 1 in 4 chance of playing 50 games. I would also suspect that with taller KP players the further you go in the draft the fail rate would be significantly more than 1 in 4.
I like the clubs recruiting method at present, take the best available at what ever pick and then look to add specific players via trades or more mature rookies listed players.
The way the list looks at present I would suggest the club will again for early darft picks chase a young big name KP player in the next couple of years.

Hopefully not next near considering it is going to be the superdraft.

LOL - according to a post in this thread, he's a passionate Eagles fan... wonder if he'll watch a GF replay with his new premiership winning teammates.

I don't understand this draft policy. Barham better have some tricks up his sleave.
So we have a key position CHB and CHF. We have Leo at FB and why not?
That leaves FF. Did we play with a genuine FF all 2005? No.
Why do we have so many so called midfielders?
Perhaps the answer is in the changing style of Aussie Rules in that there are fewer marking contests and more around the ground free possessions, plus more stoppages. So they go for quick running midfielders of medium height who can play defensive roles on smaller forwards and get in and under. Speed is the essence of this game style.
Also heard Alan McConnell on SEN say that Sydney appeared to be going for players who are "footballers" rather than athletes simply because of their position down the list in the draft.
We hear our supporters crying out for more tall key defenders.
I am happy with how they are recruiting because WE WON THE FLAG IN 2005.

We don't have any depth for these positions. One or two players at most. You still need bigger players, we have a bare minimum.

Micky O is a genuine FF. He is still pretty tall, he's just not bulky. But the way he uses his body to mark he may as well be one.

That's nice, but where are we going to fit them all?

Leo, Micky and Barry will be 29 next season. Unconvential as they are, that's still old, we need to be drafting replacements. It's not going to be 05 for much longer.
SEN were discussing our unconventional drafting. One stat they came up with Sydney have 12 players under 180cm.
The AFL average is 3. So we have some vertically challenged types in our side.
You don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby Ziegler

Spot on. We've now given ourselves no coverage if one of Vogels or Grundy don't make it. By drafting West (key forward) and Lucy (key defender), we could have halved the risk that we would be caught short at either end.
Instead, we have a couple of short stick figures in Thornton and Brabazon who - whilst I'm sure they're very talented - offer us nothing that we don't already have in abundance.
I'm hopeful that, like usual, Roosy proves us wrong. But it seems to be drafting based on a very one-eyed (and in my opinion very wrong) view of the direction footy is going. If indeed they think that talls don't matter any more... well, we're in trouble.

Assuming they can actually play that is.
The simple fact that the clubs who took West and Lucy (WB and Ess) both used their 5th picks on them doesn't exactly represent strong faith in their talents.
For the last 3 drafts I've read on these boards the exasperation of many of our overlooking of talls - there's no point recruiting players who aren't any good.
I'd suggest if any of the 3 we drafted play a senior game it would be a bonus, given our position in this draft. When your first pick is above 50 you've got to be realistic about things.
It looks like they got the Ted Richards call pretty much right given what was available - Muston may be the only one that might prove that wrong.
Understood, Steve. But given that we only had 4th round picks anyway, whats preferable? Borderline players who, if successful, will fill a need or borderline players that we don't need?

Originally posted by Schneiderman Ok, so lets get it all into perspective. With our five picks we got one KPP (either end), one ruckman, and three midfielders.
Whats wrong with that again?
We lost Saddington (Sort of KP), James, Schuable, Powell (Could have developed into one, who knows). Richards hasn't proven to be a key position player, and says he wants to be a flanker.
The ruckman we got hasn't to my knowledge played in a key position.
We already had enough midfielders by anyone's reckoning.
