    2006 Depth

Had a lot of friends comment that swans lack depth and will struggle in 2006.

I can acknowledge injuries hurt every team's chances. Depends how many and to whom.

Loss of Jolly and Williams would be significant holes for us IMO.

    Thoughts on depth?

Would think with Willo slowing down and our abundance of midfielders, we would be okay (McVeigh, Moore, Eski).

If Leo or C Bolts went down then we would have reason to worry about depth.

Ruck and defensive KP depth are our weak spots IMHO.

Unfortunately none of them have demonstrated they can be full-time midfielders yet.

Yep - this remains a worry.

I think losing Kirk, Hall or Jolly would be critical too.

I don't think they need to be. If Willo went down we could play someone who isn't usually a midfielder (Kennelly or Davis) in his spot and have McVeigh, Eski, Moore take flanks.

I don't think losing Willo would hurt us as much nowadays. Great player, but I think 2006 might see him out.

We won't know the true strength of our depth, until we see more of Moore, Malceski, Mcveigh etc in the seniors.

Yes and yes. Key defensive posts are our achilles.

Dont be surprised if Heath Grundy steps up in 2006 he had many fine games in the reserves this year, he had a year of senior football in the SANFL before he came to Sydney if he can improve his mobility and pace over the preseason he may well play plenty of senior football next year.
                cheers Ian

Tell me about Bevan. What role should/could he play. Seems a little too defensive and doesn't find the ball. Gives away a few too many frees IMO also. What are your thoughts?

Thought he was lucky to get a recall during the finals.

why the thought that we may lose Jolly?

You never know what will happen next year, but we can't expect another fortunate season without any significant injuries. Jolly would hurt us as we would lose an experienced big enforcer ruckman which we only have one of and is also vital to our structure.

BTW welcome to RWO, good to see some new faces.

I think they were suggesting that if Jolly were to be injured we might struggle to cover his loss, however we still have Doyle Erickson, Shaw and possibly Chambers so we should be okay.

QF vs WCE when he was off - no direction out of the midfield. Struggled with same issue when he was injured earlier in the season.

I don't think anyone has really stepped up, be good if he played forward or back, so someone can and hopefully does step up.

Re Jolly, our second tier are all unknown/untried/unreliable - if we don't have him playing 60-70% of the game it will expose us significantly.

I agree with singaporeswan re Williams - he is still important to provide drive and direction for our midfield. You do notice the difference when Williams is not on the ground.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.
