There used to be more players than fans in the old days at Sydney Family Days, then came the Randwick Racecourse extravaganzas.

I for one did not hear much discontent, I also find not joining because of the structure or attendees at a family day quite astounding!

Is there anyone else here who likes going to the game, and then simply going home afterwards or for a few beers with mates. Am I an exception in that I have no interest in having anything to do with players other than watching them playing ?

I reckon its's good to go to the footy with some friends, then out to supper after a night game or out to dinner after a day game. I would only hang around to meet other people or to get autographs. We stayed for a few miniutes after the Hawthorn game in round 22, but because we didn't know anybody, it didn't seem worth staying so we went out to dinner instead. Chinatown has the best restaurants if you want a good feed without paying the earth Then we would head home so that I can watch the game having taped it whilst we were there.

From what are read in the papers, you, Katie Scarlet & Charlie are right - my sincere apologies to MS12.
However, I still disagree with MS12's comments anyway. The club have given so much, anything else they did after Grand Final week was extra.
Tony Morwood, thanks for organising the family day & ensuring that we remain 2 cities but 1 club!!!

No. I am the same. I take it further - I don't care what they do with their social lives either. It would be different if I actually knew them, but I don't, and anything else seems like being a groupy.

Here Here. Except for saying taking kids to have a kick with Bazza anything else is def groupy - bit like Bill Lawry "Merv. Merv, I love him, I wanna boof him" in the 12th man.

That was the point of my earlier post too.

I dont mind bumping into them in the street and saying hi. They always smile and say hi back, which just reminds me they are only human and so prone to the same foibles as the rest of us.

But this 'pedestal treatment' with Family Days and such turn them into heroes who, lord forbid, may make the enormous 'blunder' of not being available for every fans beck and call.

Which is quite different and perfectly understandable.

Riding a scooter is probably as effective as switching to boxers.
