    Swans flag hometown intentions

    Haven't seen this posted....

SYDNEY Swans has declined an invitation from Essendon to unfurl the 2005 premiership flag before their round one match at Telstra Dome next year.

    Not unexpected.

The club's Melbourne-based fans will see the 2005 pennant raised before the Swans' round three Telstra Dome night match against Carlton.
This is good news for the Vic fans.

Yep, good news. Weren't Carlton the ones who voted to kill us off back in the early 1990s? That would make it even sweeter, unfurling our premiership flag at a Carlton home game!

Absolutely the right decision that it is unfurled first in Sydney. Why we dont have a home game in Round 1 is still beyond me!!

Another good point is that as the Essendon game is a ticketed game, a few Swans fans will either be unable to attend or wont be able to afford it...so more will be able to witness the unfurling against Carlton.

I actually wouldnt have expected a separate unfurling...yes I would have hoped for it but not have assumed it as a given. Is a little counter to a thread about Melb fans being stooged....this is a good 'reward' from the club

Don't tell Melb Swan12, she'll tell us that the Melbourne supporters are being stooged again. I am glad that the tradition continues, that the flag is unfurled at the first home game of the reigning premier, that's how it should be. If I can't get up to Sydney for that game, then I'll have to wait until they raise it at the "dome" which is great for us Melbourne based supporters too

A good decision. I'm already manipulating my roster for a round 2 trip to Sydney!

Good decision by the club, already have booked flights and accomodation for round 2.

A big thank-you should also go out to both the Essendon & Carlton Football Clubs for both allowing us the opportunity of unfurling the flag in Melbourne, something both didn't have to do.

Also for all supporters attending the Essendon game in round 1, this is an all ticketed game and will sell out very early.

In order to make sure you get a ticket for the game with other Swans supporters and to be right up close and personal when the team runs out for the first time as "Reigning Premiers" then you will need to book your seats at the La Trobe street end of the stadium in Aisle 18 to 24 on level 1, which sits both sides of the race we will be using.

Looking forward to seeing us run out for the first time as "Reigning Premiers" and then unfurling the flag at home the week after, before returning the week after to do it all again.

And I have organised my first trip back to Oz in 2 years around this very match too.

Correct decision made by the club, the unfurling MUST be held at our home ground not the ground of a club that is trying to make sure that every unsold ticket that their members don't take up are sold to Swans fans wanting to witness this slice of history. I'm sure most Melbourne based fans will be able to wait an extra 2 weeks to see the flag unfurled against Carlton and with more of our own supporters in attendence.

That and the fact I want to rub the premiership flag in the faces of the club that unsuccessfully tried to have us killed off in 92.
                Once was, now elsewhere

I did not expect to see this in Melbourne - was not going to go to any home & away matches in 2006 (promised my wife) but now I've gone & bought another membership ticket & it looks like one game will definitely be used.
Kathy, my darling wife - forgive me!!!!!!
2005 will live forever (or until we win another premiership)

Being cynical I'm sure both made the offer in order to increase ticket sales.

As has been pointed out the Carlton game will provide a much better oppotunity for Vic fans to see the flag.

I can tell you've never met my wife. She HATES SPORT especially SEN cause I follow everything (sports junkie). She's due 3 month's after your wife (having a c'section too) & I've spent about $700-800 on footy stuff since the GF so she's had it with footy especially.

Looks like I'll be at both unfurlings.
That's the problem with modern day medicine - there's no more natural selection of the species.
No wonder there's so many Collingwood fans.

My wife doesn't really like sport either, but she has really gotten into the Swans and footy. But she can't understand yet why I need to watch the GF more than once when I know how it finishes.
