Barry Hall has off season operation

I watched the GF again today and it's amazing what a difference it makes when you realise the extent to which Barrys eyesight had deteriorated and how it did effect the amount of marks he either fumbled and then took or fumbled and then dropped. At times I was almost making excuses for him when he did drop a mark or two in the game. He won't have any excuses next year Be interesting to see how much better he plays then

Re-introduce harsh umpiring on him???!? When did it stop? Watching the replays on FF now, I can't believe some of the stuff the opposition gets away with on Barry.

It's amazing he got a kick. Couldn't see, couldn't play in the wet (Rain drops keep falling on my head), choker in the big time (Melbourne pundits) and only got an easy goal when he whacked a StKilda cream puff.

Now that he can see he will play better at night because the rain wont blur his vision any more. What with a super turbo BH, emerging players such as ROK, Buchy, Irish, Grundy (my big prediction) and the future super star LRT, to name a few, look out in 2006.

My query is for how long did the club know of Halls eyesight problems and why wasn't it remedied earlier?

They knew before the season, Barry said he tried contacts, but found them too uncomfortable, so he just made do for the rest of the year. Now the laser surgery appears to have fixed the problem

I wear contact lenses and I dont even feel them but everyone is different I suppose.

No worries, don't know where I read it, but evidently that is what happened. My wife also wears contacts and they don't worry her most of the time. Maybe Barry should have tried some "Geoff Blethyn" style glasses like the Essendon full forward in the late 70's...hmmm maybe not, although no-one would have given him a hard time about them

I was only 9 or 10 but I do remember those glasses. A fashion statement they were not. Mind you Barry could wear a pink Tutu with matching halter top onto the field and no one would be game to say boo.

I reckon sports glasses would have been preferable to struggling with bad eye sight though in all fairness. he did hit a few stinkers and the first weagles game was a nightmare for him. strange decision, but it all worked out alright so it probably doesn't matter much.

I HATE the things. Tried temporary ones but had to rush back the next morning to the optimists to have him basically pluck them out of my eyes. I was so traumatised by it all, having this strange person seriously digging his fingers into my eye sockets, that I swore myself off contacts for good.

Maybe I will have the lasic surgery one day. But in the mean time, it is the trusty
