The son of one of rugby league's greatest fullbacks has been given a chance to scale new heights with the AFL premiers, writes Richard Hinds.

I grew up with the black and gold and always wore Nbr 1 on my Tigey Tigey Tigaaaarrrssss jersey in honour of Alan McMahon and then Garry Jack.

Anyone following the Tiges will know Keirens Dad was a pretty good kick for touch and goal, ran a lot like Leo Barry as well as executing many try saving tackles.

If footy ability, passion, pride and dedication is inherited, he'll certainly show some for the Swannies. Wish him well.

(Feel a bit sorry for him being called a Public Relations coup tho')

Keiren has a great season with both the Rams and Pennant Hills in the Sydney AFL and was frequently in the best on ground lists. Was a standout in Penno's Finals and showed the way for all senior players. If they took a leaf out of Keiren's book they might have had some more success in the finals.

He is a good in and under player with a great big heart and doesn't take a step back. He skills are solid also and can deliver a good footy into the forward line.

The only thing that will hold him back is his height, just a little short in AFL terms, but wish him all the best for hopefully a long and sucessful career.

People who said it was gunna be a PR coup were right.

I couldn't be less worried about his height in terms of his ability to play good footy. There would be probably hundreds of sub-178cm stars over the years, and while many other aspects of the game have changed (principally in ways that demand high fitness levels of all 18 players rather than just a few), the fundamentals of playing as a small midfielder haven't changed much over the years.

However, I am worried about his height in terms of where the hell he would get a game for the Swans... ahead of the 10 other talented young guys of similar description who are waiting in line.

The main issue there is not his height per se. but the fact we have so many of that type of player already. It'd be hard to see how he could fit in with Schneids. Buchanan, et al.

Peter Filandia comes to mind. He had two. One on and one off the field. For those of you that remember that time when he was playing against the Crows I think and had a wardrobe (shorts) malfunction.

I hope The young Jack boy makes the firsts one day. If he is anything like his old man, he will try his hardest and that in turn will place a lot of pressure on the midfielders above him.
