Think he's best 22 over last 10 yrs IMO. Never hated him. Disappointed when he left.

The Most Hated Team of the Century?

An interesting Idea to pass the time, what are the rules?

Does it just contain "traitors" like the departed Shannon?

In that case we have Gaspar at fullback, 2 of 3 Morwoods, Rhys-Jones, Greg Williams and Bernie Evans who all went to Carlton.
Then there's the large Collingwood contingent Greg Smith, Rocca, Barry Mitchell, Teasedale & Shane Morwood.

And when is a traitor a traitor?

Greg Stafford got shovelled out but some people boo him rather than Gaspar when we play the tigers. I personnally detested Tony Lockett when he smashed Peter Caven but I put my loathing on hold when he played for us. And Peter himself, did he betray us because he ended up playing in Adelaide's premiership sides?

Should we also include the woefull?

Simon Minton-Connell, Andrew Bomford, etc. etc.

I don't know who'd make room for him, but I'm mainly thinking of his 1996 season. I've said here before that his early injury was perhaps the main reason why we lost the GF, and he starred in a couple of others, including Carlton IIRC. Others would know better than I but I wonder if the relatively low number of goals was because of where he played - how many goals has Paul Williams kicked for us? (Not comparing them talent-wise).

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

It's a bit harsh including some of those players as some were in the crew that couldn't or wouldn't relocate to Sydney when all players were required to be based in Sydney...but you forgot to mention Simon Garlick and David Ackerley, just to add a couple of extra names.

                  Wasn't O'Brien a genuine HFF, very similar to O'Keefe?

He really didn't play enough games for us to warrant a selection, IMVHO. In '96, he played 18 games, '97 - 11, then in '98, '99 and '00, he played 6, 2 and 4 games respectively. He did kick a couple of bags during that time.

O'Brien didn't get along with Eade, hence his limited games. If O'Brien hasn't been injured in the opening minutes of the '96 GF, we were a good chance of winning!

The stats show that he averaged just under 2 goals a game. Not bad for a HFF, If you could count on that from each of your HFF you're off to a good start every game

BTW he played the same number of games that ROK has played, for 75 more goals FWIW.

Just proves the point about making stats say anything

He was a midfielder/rover in height but he played "tall" on the forward line, a leading marking target. Which is a pity because we could have done with someone to rove the spillage from Lockett.
Indeed his best games were usually when he was filling in for Tony Lockett at full forward.

Didn't his injury allow Pagan to move Archer from deep in defence onto Luff who had been doing well (on Schwass)? My memory may be dimming.

Not Schwass - he was in the middle.

IIRC Schwass was playing on Luffy for a while.

Wasn't it Schwatta who smacked Luffy in the jaw after the ball went OOB in a forward pocket - I'm sure he was suspended for a couple of games after it.

Wow - how bizarre. Can't imagine that match up. I don't recall much of the game as I was drunk for much of it. Perhaps Luffy can tell us about it.

His main impact was when we was playing with the Saints prior to '96. Nothing to do with the Swans in the last decade.

It's not about a player's talent, more what he did with that for the Swans between '96 and '05.
