Inside Football on 'why we'll slide'

Mr Holmesby has come to the conclusion that the 2005 Swans side is just like the 1995 Carlton side (although he makes no accusations about salary caps). And Micky McGuane sees us as a reincarnation of the 1990 Collinwood sides.
The points they agreed upon was that these sides were playing to the peak of their abilities and both benifitted by an impossibly good run with injuries.
Neither of which are likely to be replicated in 2006, after all it wasn't by the '90 aor '95 sides.

Perhaps we should all resign ourselves to another 70 year wait now?

Incidentally the Bookies have installed us as 3rd price premiership favourites ($7) behind the Weagles at $4.50 and the Saints at $5.00 (The Crows at $8).

Inside Football (Jim Main aside) was tipping against Sydney for the entire 2005 finals series. The end result (a premiership for us!!!) proved that they dont really have a clue. I wont be wasting my money on this dumb paper next year.

      Not an unreasonable view.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

I think so too, but it doesn't really bother me, because

        a) There's been a huge influx of new players to look forward to (2 mature/11 kids).
        and
        b) After all these years WE are the Premiers!

I think (b) is key - no matter what happens we'll always have that!

I also think that we can be competitive this year (assuming a decent run with injuries, which is so critical and was a major factor last year) and it's exciting to think what Hall might do next year.

              Who missed games through injury?

              Ball missed 5.
              J Bolton 2.
              Davis 3.
              Doyle season.
              Fosdike 15.
              Mathews 1.
              Maxfield 21.
              O'Loughlin 3.
              Williams 7.

              That's a pretty good run.

                  It certainly was possible!

I also agree that Inside Footy hates Sydney more than any other team. Holmesy and Cassanella constantly tipped against us and when we did win, their ratings of our players was shocking.

They actually gave some Grand Final stars a 6 (see LRT).

In the biggest game of the year, they applied the same hum drum ratings they would have for Round 7.

Pretty much every team has that problem. It's a matter of how serious it is, as in whether you can play or not, and if you can then that's fortunate.

The Eagles would whine for months if they had lost Cousins and Gardiner for the year.

Schauble and Nicks also missed games due to injuries.

Pffft... yeah I'd equate Cousins and Gardiner with Maxfield and Doyle...

Yes, but when fit they couldn't get a side in the best 22 at the critical time anyway.

Seaby and Fletcher is a fairer comparison.

They never got 100% fit. Certainly Nicks didn't.
