Re: Ruck Depth
Probably, at this stage if Doyle is fit he is in our number one ruck combo with Jolly. With Goodes as the match day back up if they decide to go small on us.Originally posted by BRISWAN

That leaves Chambers as our back for both Doyle & Jolly and the developing Erikson and Shaw as the future.
I think we have a nice balance at present, especially if Doyle can remain fit and on the park, that would be a huge bonus for next year.

MR I.F. Doyle Perhaps big Stephen should change his name?Originally posted by DST
if Doyle
Doyle v's Chambers
Chambers stats aren't much to look at, he doesn't seem to take many marks. He he seems to get a reasonable share of taps, his best was 18 against Port in round 16 (although Primus & Lade racked up 40). Against us he had 15 taps (Ball & Jolly got 34).
So at this stage I can't see Chambers as anything other than a somewhat expensive insurance policy. But we'll see.Comment

There was discussion on here a few months ago about Chambers, I can't find which thread it was, but there are stats. IIRC, showing that the best games that he had were against the Swans. Each game he either had as many taps, if not more than his Swans opponent. Given the regard we hold our ruck combination in, that seems pretty good to me.Originally posted by Sanecow
Did alright against us in 2003.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

Talking about mobility took me back to a play that happened against Carlton at the Dome last year, Ball grabbed the ball from a pack and took off at full speed and then hand balled to Schauble as he broke through the middle of the ground at full speed. I admired both of these guys asa footballers, but they weren't the quickest on the ground. Funnier still was that no Carlton defender was able to catch themOriginally posted by chammond
Based purely on his efforts against the Swans, he looks like a 'natural' tap ruckman who is well suited by the new centre bounce rules.
But he certainly doesn't look very mobile . . . just an old-fashioned follower?

Better yet was when Darren Jolly tried the same thing but carried the ball for about 25 metres on his back. Can't remember which game but god it was funny.Originally posted by goswannie14

A lot of speculaion about Chambers is just that, the stats say he matched Ball for hitouts in 2003 which is good.
I honestly can't remember seeing him play, but at 197cm he's on the shorter side for a ruckman, the new circle favour light towers rather than leapers. But it's all speculation ~ we'll see after North Sydney.Comment
