Other clubs have got injuries including hammies to key players. Bevan is not a key player unless of course one refers to Canberra.Comment

Sean Dempster has continued on from his good running form that he showed this time last year that really set him up for a good season last year so hopefully he is in for a better season this year," the 1999 Kangaroos premiership player said."It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.

Well done Craig Bolton for getting the co- captaincy in 2008.
Your determination, your tenacity and your under-rated skill is why you have become my favourite player!Comment

He never seems to move once tackled - it's bizarre.Comment

Good to hear, but who is the bloke saying this? As far as I recall, the Horse was one of the unlucky ones to miss out, not only in 1999 but also in -erk- 1996.
Can't be that much of a hopeless judge of form. He's very careful when interviewed, even boring, but he's astute enough I would have thought. The Pain of Discipline is Nothing Like The Pain of DisappointmentComment

However the 99 GF was Longmires last game of AFL footy.
Certainly not his best game.

He played 24 games and finished the 2004 seaon as our best first year player.
Whatever the reason 2005 was a case of the second year blues., he was dropped a few times and spent a lot of time on the bench.
However I think it's a little early to be losing hope for him. ROK is correct about his getting caught and his 'over-exuberance' in the tackle can also be an issue (he's on the wrong side of the free kick ledger).
In 2004 he played a bit up forward to reasonable effect (he's not a stylish kick but he's more accurate in front of goal than Monty) but in any case Monty took his spot as the defensive forward.
He's struggled a little down back, and while I don't think he'll ever be a free-wheeeling-ball-distibuting-half-back, I see signs that he may (with time) prove effective as a rough-em-up small defender.
Back pocket players often take a while to settle down there and frequently improve over time, and with many Sydney kids, their development is often retarded by the poor standard of competition in this city.Comment

I agree on the free-kick count and think he's too defensive.
Re HTB - how on earth from week to week, even qtr to qtr, are players meant to know how the rule will get interpreted. Bevo's not Robinson Crusoe on that front....
He was very hardly done by in the PF agst the STK in that free given to Reiwoldt.
Oh no - why did I start talking about finals umpiring!!!! Sorry everyoneComment

I find it a little ironic that at the the same time as a thread is building about how Schneider was prematurely dismissed as being capable of making a decent contribution, similar comments are now being made about Bevan.
I think Ruckman is spot on. Not every player displays a consistent development curve. Indeed, most young players have both ups and downs over the first few years of their careers.
The fact is that Bevan had a super first season in the seniors, finishing in the top 5 in the B&F. If every player who didn't go on with things straight away was discarded, the Swans wouldn't now have the likes of Brett Kirk or Ryan O'Keefe or Amon Buchanan on their list. The likes of Daryn Cresswell and Andrew Dunkley would be obscure names in the annals of players who never made it, rather than inscribed on T of C honour boards.
I have no idea at this stage whether Bevan will "make it" in the longer term. However, he's certainly demonstrated enough raw ability thus far to deserve perserverance with him. Fortunately the club seems to agree.Comment
