I agree Knickers about that St.Kilda free kick.....as I watch that particular quarter of football nearly every night. Each time Bevan is called for holding the ball I still shake my head.

Also as that quarter is seen so often I have seen a little bit of sublety in some of Bevan's tackling. At one stage he was about to do his usual all-in tackle and something seems to click and a lets one arm slide away so it doesn't go too high. Maybe I'm seeeing too much into it but I think he's going to be OK unless he has been pre-ordaines to fill Fixter's role. Can't we just abolish that position in the club.

Bevan reminds me of Neil Brunton.

Poor kick, tries hard, doesn't read the play, tries hard, not much idea when he has the pill, tries hard, not accountable, tries hard, struggles at Group 1 level, tries hard.

      = not up to it.

Leaving aside your criticism of Paul Bevan.

        Neil Brunton not accountable??????
He played his best footy as a close checking tagger!

For all those that are bagging Bevan, go back and watch the 3rd quarter of the GF. When he is being presented with the premiership medallion and the general vibe of this board is that he is lucky to be a premiership player. I disagree. The 3rd quarter was when Crouch got moved off Sampi onto Judd, a telling matchup in deciding the game. Bevan had a number of one-on-one contests with Sampi and Bevan smashed the ball away with conviction when the opportunity was there to spoil. He, IMO, is an unsung hero of the GF. If he couldn't have beaten Sampi in that matchup, Crouch would have had to be moved back to the backline, Ablett back onto Judd. Game. Set. Match. Big call, I know, but Crouch's efforts, once again IMO, on Judd helped raise the team that extra notch as well as shutting Judd's effectiveness.

And the sheer ignorance of the title of this thread astounds me. A preseason is the fitness springboard to the season, are they meant to be kept on cotton-wool all off-season and gain their fitness during Rd 1?

Have done...my problem is the 4th quarter where he turns the ball over, misses defensive punches and looks out of his league. Happy for his efforts (pat on back), but a preimership side is never the same two years in row...Normally a change over of around 3-5 players. Ball is one..Bevan is another candidate as the 22nd squad member.
