Time for an apology

I watched the Preliminary and Grand Final last quarters again last night and got a slight attack of the guilts.

I said half way through the season that we could not win the flag with Adam Schneider in the side. At the time he was playing like an old moll, and I could only make comments based on what I saw at the time and not what I hoped might be the case.

Well the lad did pull the finger out and perhaps even stuck a pin in his head to deflate it, but good on him and I sincerely apologise for such outrageous statements.

As I said after we won the Granny, I will now only make comments such as "he is playing so poorly he does not deserve a place in the team until he can prove by having a number of weeks in the 2's, that he has regained form to the satisfaction of the selectors and coaches". (not a core promise)

It ws a different Adam Schneider in the side by the time the finals came around, he was back to the schneiderman of old.. So you were actually quite right!!!

Here's hoping he (and others such as LRT), start 06 in the same form as they finished 05 ...!

I think the statement that we cannot win a flag with Schneider in the side was a bit over the top. However, to clarify it slightly to say that we could not win a flag with Schneider in the side and continuing to play the way he was at the time was not an unreasonable view to take. As it happened he improved dramatically, as did the team overall in the second half of the year.

I worry about LRT - how can he live up to the expectations generated by the GF? Where will he go to from here? Back to early 2005 form or will he match his end of '05 performances.

I expect somewhere in the middle, but I just worry that he will try a little bit too much, too early and perform some exceptional clangers ... supporters will start to turn on him again (it doesn't take much as past experience on RWO has shown) and he loses confidence ... I know this is all totally hypothetical, but as I said at the start, "I worry about LRT".

Yes have been worrying about LRT too as I hope people don't expect too much of him. He will be in that 2 steps forward 1 step back type development for a long time I think.

Maybe it's me being a Capricorn (or rather that I have coached lots of gangly teenagers who end up finally getting it together)but I'm prepared to wait patiently in his case. I know other people like immediate results.

Some on this site do have a habit of intermittantly lauding and lambasting players, as they fail to live up to or exceed RWOers over-inflated or derisory opinions of them.

I think it's called being a fan.

I expect 2006 to be up and down for LRT. Doesn't mean he won't drive me nuts though.

I expect LRT to be a solid contributor, and I won't mind if he doesn't play up to his GF standard on a regular basis. He is still on a sharp learning curve and I think he's got what it takes but will need continued time and experience. The courage, commitment and determination were never in doubt. And he has the advantage of having as coach one of the best CHBs who has played the game.

The season must be getting close, threads are turning into LRT threads. Having watched the grand final for the first time the other day I did not think that LRT's game was that good. It was better, but it was not that flash. His abiltiy to read the game has improved but I still think he is easilly out positioned at the ball. Time will tell but I think he has peaked - the Michael Clarke of AFL.
