Sharing the goals

Another thing pleasing about our 4-match run has been the spread of players scoring the goals. Apart from the Brisbane game, we've not had the top-scoring player of the day, with a lot of players getting 2 or 3 goals each, with midfielders chiming in for goals.

    Rd 5:

    Sydney - Davis 3, O?Loughlin 3, Schneider 3, Ball 2, Hall, Goodes, Nicks, Williams, Maxfield, J.Bolton

Melbourne - Neitz 6, White 3, Jolly 2, Moorecroft, Thompson

    Rd 6:

    Sydney - Goodes 3, O?Loughlin 3, Hall 2, Schneider 2, J.Bolton, Cresswell, Davis, Fosdike, Kennelly, Maxfield, Williams

Collingwood - Tarrant 5, Buckley 2, Rocca 2, Betheras, Fraser, Lokan, Molloy

    Rd 7:

    Sydney - O'Loughlin 5, Hall 2, Cresswell 2, Schneider 2, Davis 1, Ball 1, Crouch 1, Goodes 1

    Brisbane - Lynch 3, Notting 2, Leppitsch 2, Voss 1, Scott 1, Brennan 1, Charman 1

    Rd 8:

    Sydney - Stevens 2, Fosdike 2, Hall 2, Goodes 2, Roberts-Thomson 2, Schneider 2, Maxfield 2, J. Bolton, Williams, Cresswell.

Geelong - Graham 4, McCarthy 2, Ablett, Kingsley, Chambers, Chapman, Riccardi.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Am I right in thinking that the Swans haven't been behind on the scoreboard at all in the last three games??

I think Collingwood got the first points against us with a behind from WoeWoeful but against Brizzie and Geelong we lead all the way....

I think you could be right Charlie. It certainly was the case this week and last.

I like the socks, I only think they look like they have too many hoops. Should go use the old South ones with 4 red and 3 white hoops.

Although the Cats didn't threaten as much as the Lions (Lions are just bigger cats), the games had a very similar flavour to them.

Swans jumping the opposition with hard running and exquisit skills early up to half time, then the other team awakening from their slumber, Swans running ceases (either too tired or just foxing) and then Swans having to guts it out to stave off the challenge.

In fact it was the same as the Pies game too. 3 identical game plans working a treat. I think Tim Lane said it best when he said something like the "the Swans have playing with brilliant running, superb skill mixed with guts dour football".

We are quite the 2 faced team! Not the 2 faced we get from the Hawks but a quality multi-dimensional running team.

The stars and coming from everywhere. Schnides is a top kid who is deadly near goal, LRT was good, Powelly's pack mark was a heart stopper, Ben M has been fantastic, Tadhg had a great clanger free game and I'm already missing Cressa.

Unless you count knocking out Willo with his elbow!

I actually think there were big differences between the mental patterns of the games. Against Collingwood I think we were just the better - and far better switched on - team and Collingwood played a dumb game plan for 3 quarters. In the 4th they just threw caution to the wind and it started to come off for them. I also think the Swans had run out of legs by then.

Against Brisbane I think they couldn't believe how far ahead they were at half-time and were struggling to believe they might actually win. Maybe they showed the opposition too much respect.

Against Geelong, they were probably bored by half-time given Geelong had put up so little resistance to that point. Tiredness may have played a part in why they stopped running, and the effect of Willo's absence shouldn't be underestimated.

Yeah, have to agree with the Willo factor too Lizz. He is a fresh burst of energy when we need it.

We had some really good hard ball get, in and under players all day and then we need the Willo type running hard. I think that is where Tadhg needs to be when Willo goes off like yesterday.

Interesting you say the guys got bored , they might take umbrage to that assessment but I think I know what you mean.
