Who needs to step up from the midfiled and kick more goals? Nog, Jude, will Moore be the man?

All the midfilders need to step up. Especially Craig "Jude" Bolton and Leo "Barry" Hall.

Apart from Schneides and Monty, no one really jumped on and kicked a 'midfielder's bag' during the year. Foss kicked 3 against the Tigers, that was it.

Quiet ones were: Kirky, Jude, Willo, Foss, Ball, Goodes even.

Jude kicked nearly 20 in '03, Cressa ditto. We happened to kick more points in '03 with better conversion too.

I think what has happened is that we have changed our structure somewhat so that the forwards are set up better and more often meaning the Mids kicking goals is less of an issue.

How many goals did Tiger kick in '05? Was it more than 3? Think the bugger misses a set shot at Subiaco in September ha. Nailed a nice one in the Grannie though.

Anyhoo, looks like you don't need your mids to kick goals if you have the right forward structure.

Anyhoo, looks like you don't need your mids to kick goals if you have the right forward structure.

The only time we kicked a lot of goals was round 15-22 last year, when we averaged over 15 goals a game, which is an excellent effort and would have placed us about third in the comp.

For the year our goals per game was only 13, which made us third lowest. In 2004 we also had 13 goals per game, which was 8th best. In 2003 we had over 14 goals per game, which was 6th best.

If we compare our goalkicking period in 2005 (ie: rd 15-22) with the first part of that season:

Rd 15-22
15.4 goals per game
Forwards: 10.5 goals per game
Other: 4.9 goals per game
Split: forwards 68%, other 32%

Rd 1-14
11.7 goals per game
Forwards: 7.6 goals per game
Other: 4.1 goals per game
Split: forwards 65%, other 35%

So, both were down in the first part of the year and both improved, the forwards more so. The extra 3 goals per game for the forwards in the second half of the year essentially came from Hall, O'Keefe and Davis contributing 1 extra each.

I think you need both forwards and midfields to kick goals to produce a winning score. Getting 10-11 goals from the forwards and 4-5 from the rest is a pretty reasonable split.

For forwards I included Hall, O'Loughlin, O'Keefe, Davis, Schneider, Malceski, and Vogels.

Of course, the ability of O'Loughlin to produce another 50 goal season has to be questioned, so the other forwards will need to step up to fill in any shortfall.

Nick Davis will play more footy in the midfield this year and should be able to kick quite a few from there
