    Cheer Up

We were very ordinary today, but lets give credit to Norff
    their game plan worked well.

    Let's be positive

We played so poorly and butchered many opportunities,
fumbled and missed targets, had 3 stars out, had the maggots against us, had no luck every time the ball bounced, were playing away from home etc , etc

    BUT

Only lost by the equivalent of 1 goal per quarter.

I'll be over it by Tuesday (maybe) and look forward to next week.

I agree. Even though we played very very terrible football, we still only lost by 4 goals. Our 4 or 5 midfielders were down on possessions, we had 3 good players out and we couldn't kick to save ourselves.

Even though I am dissappointed I am not too upset. I could tell in the first couple of minutes that it wasn't going to be our day.

Let's look to next week and hopefully we get some players back.

    PS. Schneider's a champ.

Agree. As one of the commentators said: It's very hard to win 5 games in a row in this even competition. I'm hoping it was one of those days when nothing goes right - so I'm not particularly upset. (Though I didn't bother watching the 4th quarter, thought it would be more fun to clean the bathroom instead!)

The key is how they respond next week. Will they lose confidence, or fail to counter oppositions' efforts to shut down the midfield? Or will they show some fighting spirit and lift for Richmond, just as they lifted against Collingwood and Melbourne in the final quarter?

      I think they can lift.

i just wish roosy would chuck LRT and powell into the mix to have a run on the big fellas rather than seeing players being 'out-towered' like barry and bolton

hmmmm... there must be something going on, as this is the rebuilding year etc etc, we might see it next year...

North were fantastic today - they showed us what committed football is all about. They ran, tackled, pressured, etc, etc. Great to watch if you were an independent viewer .

            Full credit to them!

We had few good players - Goodes for his overall dominance, Barry for his rebounding and shutting Archer out of the game, Maxfield tried hard...

I could focus on the few negatives of Goodes, Barry or Maxfield but I'll leave that to the same olds...

Overall a down day that we should accept will happen and move on.
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

It was a loss we had to have, just to get some reality back into the season.

The best thing to come out of it was the form of Stevens in the back half (CHB?) in the last quarter. I hope he stays there, even when saddington comes back.

This year we have struggled against sides with beanstalk ruckman. Nothing changed today. Hopefully Stafford will miss next week, as the tigers are a very tall side which we may struggle against.

Tiger was very short this week. With only four 190cm+ players in their team. That was without Stafford.

I was reading that only 2 teams have won this season the week after playing Geelong, so we're not in bad company on that note.

Looking at the game as a whole, it was more like what I was expecting from us this year, as opposed to our performances against Collingwood and Brisbane. We are NOT a top 4 side, and were never going to be one this season, and today just provided a reminder to those who may have been thinking about late September action that it is not going to happen this year.

The biggest worry for me is that the boys lose confidence for next week and don't play their own style of game next week. I've seen a big change in mental attitude this season - the 3rd quarter against the Lions where we stemmed the flow of goals where last year the floodgates would have opened. Saturday night will be another big test of our mental attitude. I'm looking forward to it!

Well, we ARE a young and inexperienced side, missing a few of the leaders in Saddo, Micky O and Cressa. Today was a down day (and man was it bad) - we have to expect a few of those this year. I reckon we're a LOT better than what we showed today - just have to prove it in the coming weeks.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Why? I noted that in games experience terms we are pretty much on par with the 'Roos yet they are not expecting "one of those years".

NW< I haven't been paying attention to what the roos are expecting fact is, they lost 5 of their last 6 (I think?) and we have just won 4 on the trot. Seeing as how the inconsistency for both sides has shown itself this weekend, I stand by my statement, which was not, BTW, "one of those years". I was implying that we are still inconsistent (and have made a habit of it in the last few years) and we will have some shockers as well as good performances.

Apologies on the quote - don't know what I was thinking there!

I suppose I was referring more to what other people have said in the past that this will be a very up and down year given it is a "rebuilding one".

However, I just wanted to point out that the 'Roos never really had a rebuilding year (although they did struggle in '01) and their list is not too dissimilar to ours in terms of games.

I expect that we will be very inconsistent this year, however to some extent lack of experience is an excuse rather than a reason.

A dog of a day indeed, and as with 2 of our other 3 losses, they have been to teams who are absolute spastics. (Still don't rate Freo but I must admit I am beginning to slowly change that).

Perhaps we have got ahead of ourselves, or played above ourselves, but this game was over 3 minutes into it. At that point we had not had a possession, and Norff had 2 easy goals on the board.

All it boils down to is that we were due for a loss and the Roos dues for a win, nothing else.
