Doyle - Chocolates Or Boiled Lollies ?

Well I was just wondering why people have the general opinion that doyle is one of the next big things - great hope if you like ?
Personally I'm yet to make a judgement either way yet till he strings games together.
I see people have him slotted in as full forward in potential forward lines and talk about how big a loss he will be when he went down in round 1 and also last year against port adelaide. From what I have seen he looks like he is a real marking option in the forward line - I.E - paul salmon in his essendon days ( early 1990's). Havent followed his ruck work to closely, is he a good tap ruckmen ?
I would really like to know why he is the next great hope as I have not seen much or cant remember to much about him.

In his short game career my observation is that he has an excellent second effort at centre bounces, unlike a lot of ruckmen who seem to think once the tap contest is over their job is done.

Part of it is on hearsay - which unfortunately is a corollary of how few senior games he's been able to play. But when an ex-player of the calibre of Kelvin Templeton makes comments (as he did on several occasions) that the guy is the most highly skilled player in the squad I guess it makes you take a bit of notice. He was highly credentialled as a youngster, deemed to be right up there with Fraser in his year (not that that necessarily translates into much several years down the track).

On the times I have had the pleasure of watching him play I've been very impressed with his around the ground mobility for a ruckman - not in the Goodes mold but excellent for a truly tall guy. He's also able to use his height to good effect taking contested marks up forward and is a decent enough converter for goal to suggest he could be a very dangerous forward while resting from ruck duties.

ill take responsibility for the build up of doyle i m one who thinks he is the next big thing, but unfortunately due to his lack of games it cant really be backed up... all i know that is when ive seen him play (mainly in the forward line) he is a great grab and reliable shot for goal, combined with the sheer height of him, i think he would be hard to match up on at FF... i havent seen him all that much in the ruck however i personally cant wait for his return...

i do think that one positive has come from his current injury; when i was at the paul kelly tribute training he was kickin the ball with his left and doing it quite well so it has given him time to get profficient on his left as well

If what Tiger and Stevens say about him sleeping all day is true he may still be growing ;-)
