Was thinking along exactly these same lines earlier today Newbie.

Some (all?) of the Swans players have their limitations but the same could be said about every other team. I find it somewhat amusing how some want to lay into players because they're not the complete package. For me, one of the great things about following a team game like football is watching a team of less than perfect human beings meld together to create a Team where the whole is so much more than the sum of the parts. It's what happened in 1996 and I'm looking forward to seeing whether Roos can achieve it in the next 2-3 years.

Can agree I guess with most of what you are saying but the players who played in 96 are some of the Elite players in AFL history. So I think your way of line comparing the two sides. Lockett, Schwass, Kelly and Roos would have no equals in todays side.

That said I love todays side and Iam enjoying watching them grow.

Davis, OKeefe and Fosdike proved their worth on Saturday

Crouch, Schauble and Warfe also did pretty well.

While Barry can be frustrating, I thought he bounced the ball less this week and, despite missing the goal in front, was pretty damn good.

Stevens will get better with more groung time and I wouldn't have though he was ever on the hitlist.

Nicks looked better this week although has some way to go.

McPherson is always going to be a fringe player

Mathews has been pretty consistant over the years......

              Not much of a list

The only elite players in our side in 96 were Lockett, Roos and Kelly, and maybe Dunkley. I think our forward line, without injuries, can be better this year. The midfield in 96 was better but the current one has potential to do reasonably well, again without injuries. The 96 backline was significantly superior and this is a critical difference. A major factor in 96 also was a lack of injuries.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Barry was better, Nicks - somehow worse. Warfe was ok in parts. ROK is still too slow for a midfielder and we already have enough forwards. The toungins were impressive, especially Sunny. Nick Davis was sensational and Bazza was great. A hit list aint the best idea, probably just a list of those under performing as it seems a little too harsh
                        - Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in a world they've been given, than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact, it's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration, it's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing!

only agree with warfe, mcpherson and nicks tho everyone deserve a second chance if they earn it.

As i can see all the others in newbies list has made valuable contribution to the side this year. They might star in every game but has all shown dedication and wonderful team work. Are we going to take this away if we follow the hit list. I'd rather keep the team as it is now, they deserve credit for their good work. This is the team that beat Pies, Lions and Tigers. They are not perfect but they are a good team.

                          Stop being so critical.

my experience is that once you leave the upper echelons...the only difference between good teams and basketcases are the confidence level and the injury list....

I recall some venomous attacks on the following players last year:

Goodes, O'Loughlin, Saddington, Bolton, Kirk, Mathews, Fosdike....hell the list is endless.

Sorry....but I hope anyone calling for Goodsie's head last year has eaten their beanies by now. In fact, all the above players have shown what they can do when a coach gives them a chance to express themselves on the field.

My 2 cents: give the boys a break. If this season has taught us anything, it's that ripping people's heads off for every little mistake is about as productive as...well...swapping Goodes for a draft pick!
Time to march for the Red and White
