Glad about Sadds and kennelly because they REALLY needed to be more physically imposing, rather than getting brushed aside.

I agree with you about Saddo - if we want him to be a KPP backman he needs to be tough, but Tiger i'm not so sure about - towards the end of last yr he was able to have a physical presence on the field, whilst still being a damn good running player. If he bulks up at the expense of his speed and agility, he may have troubles on the field because he is no longer suited to the position he seems to be being trained into. From the little i saw on Wednesday i don't think this is the case atm, but a fine line must be drawn, and I would expect David Misson is on top of it all

With Kennelly, it surprised me how aggressive he was in his first few games - I expect him to take a little longer to get used to the physical contact, but it was almost as if he couldn't wait to get stuck in after growing up playing a non-contact sport.

IMHO with him it is more a case of learning to read the play better, and how to approach the physical contact - ie: how to tackle effectively without giving away free kicks etc. I don't think he is as likely as Saddington to have to hold his ground in a key position - moreso floating about the ground as a midfielder or making cameo appearances in the forward line.

If anything, his pace is his best weapon.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Too right, Liz. Was somewhat embarrassing last year to admit that one of the players with the best skills was a twig-like Irishman who had never seen a Sherrin 4 years ago!

                  But this is just it.
With that rapid improvement, he will only get better.

And potentially (rears its ugly head again) it is scary how good he 'could' be.

Mind you I would settle for him being a solid player using that pace and great kick of his

Kennelly is as the article in the smh link says will be needed to play a combination of attacking and defending and this is where strength will be needed! A balance is the need.

I don't know about Tadgh continuing with the rapid improvement that we have seen thus far masey. It's all to do with learning curves. His will platau shortly. To expect him to improve exponentially this season, comparatively with last season, is probably expecting a bit too much of the lad. He will improve most definitely, but lets not compare his learning rate season to season.

I was also impressed with Kennelly's frantic arm waving and jumping up and down when on the mark. This lead me to think that the Swans should get Luffy in as the 'mark coach' as I recall that his unorthodox 'man on the mark' style put more than a few opponents kicks wayward ;-)
