    Josh Thewlis and Ryan Crawford

Great effort in reserves on the weekend. Kicked 7 goals.

Ryan Crawford also looks the likely type, kicked 6 goals.
    Future looks bright!

    Report is below:

Thewlis kicks 7 in reserves win

Brilliant performances by Josh Thewlis at full forward, with seven goals, Ryan Crawford at half forward, with six goals and Mark Powell at centre half back helped the Swans to their 98 point victory over the Wildcats at Lakeside Oval on Sunday. In fine conditions Sydney outclassed the, at times, undisciplined Wildcats outfit.

The Swans, kicking to the northern end of the ground and into the breeze, kicked the first goal of the game through Thewlis from 30 metres. He kicked his second a minute later after the ball spilt from a pack in the goal square. Weston Creek began to play some undisciplined football and were penalised for a number of high tackles and other infringements. The Wildcats put their first goal through at the twelve minute mark but the Swans were quick to reply after an intercept by Powell, who passed to Thewlis, who marked and kicked his third goal. He also kicked the Swans? next goal from 40 metres out with five minutes left in the quarter. Some more undisciplined play from the Wildcats resulted in a free kick to the Swans which was followed by two 50 metre penalties and ended in a goal to James Meiklejohn from the goal square. Daniel McPherson ended the quarter with the Swans? sixth goal, bringing the quarter time score to 6.3(39) to Weston Creek 1.1(7).

It was not until the 10 minute mark in the second term that either team added a goal to their scores but the Swans took the honours through Thewlis after a strong mark 30 metres out. Roberts kicked the next goal for the Swans, which was quickly followed by Weston Creek?s second goal for the game. Scott McGlone?s accurate snap from the boundary line put the Swans 42 points in front and Bevan kicked a goal on the run to further increase the margin. Crawford kicked the next two, one from 40 metres out and one from the goal square. A minute later Weston Creek kicked their third but the Swans kicked the last goal of the quarter once again, when McPherson marked 25 metres from goal. The score at the main break saw the Swans 13.6(84) lead the Wildcats 3.4(22).

Weston Creek kicked the first three goals of the third quarter to make their score slightly more respectable but the Swans proved they had not gone missing by ending the term with the last three goals. Thewlis kicked one, after a mark 30 metres out and Crawford brought his tally to four after kicking two goals from 40 metres out, one after a mark and one on the run. The Swans 16.10(100) lead Weston Creek 6.7(43) at three quarter time.

The Swans buried the Wildcats in the final term with a seven goal to two effort. McGlone opened the Swans? account, followed by another goal to Crawford from 35 metres. Some brilliant ruck work from Meiklejohn to McPherson ended in a goal and Lord kicked the Swans twentieth goal soon after. Thewlis made it seven for the match by kicking a goal from 30 metres, on the run before Weston Creek kicked their first for the quarter, but the Swans kept firing. Crawford kicked his sixth and the Wildcats kicked their second and last goal for the quarter. Amon Buchanan kicked his first for the game on the siren after a 50 metre penalty. The Swans ended the game 23.18(156) to Weston creek?s 8.10(58).

The Swans? Reserves continue to sit at second spot on the ladder and will have to continue their winning streak if they wish to overtake Belconnen. The Swans next game is on Saturday (June 7, 3:50pm) against Ainslie as the curtain raiser to the Swans v Essendon clash (7:20pm) at Telstra Stadium.

    Final Score:

    Swans Reserves ? 6.3(39) 13.6(84) 16.10(100) 23.18(156)

    #2
Mcglone has been really consistent hopefully he will be on our senior list one day.

Remember watching him in the u/18 G.F a few years ago and thought he looked a likely type.
