It has been a tough week for the Sydney Swans but for coach Paul Roos he can only control what happens on the ground and he is concerned about certain aspects of it, too.
Roos admitting his greatest fear was the team changing its expectations and getting too far ahead of itself after defeating Richmond last weekend at the MCG.
?We are in the same position we are now as we were sort of round 13 last year and we are trying to do the same things,? Roos said.
?Our win ratio is now 6-4 but is as a result of some of the things we are putting in place so we can?t be worried about where we are going to finish or whether it?s 8th or 9th or 10th.
?We just have to make sure we keep playing the younger guys as we have been and keep putting things in place.?
Although tipped by several factions in the media to finish with the wooden spoon, Roos refutes any team in the competition would underestimate his team.
?Our coaches spend basically all week preparing for the team they come up against the following week so I don?t think you can underestimate (that) in today?s game.
?You have four coaches at every club and they are watching tapes, and they are sending forward scouts.
?I mean David Wheadon was sitting up there on Friday who is Richmond?s forward scout and he would have known (Jason) Saddington wasn?t going to play, would have know (Michael) O?Loughlin wasn?t going to play.
?So I don?t know how you can underestimate a team, I think every team in the competition respects the other 15 teams that play.?
Roos was pleased with many aspects of their win over Richmond given the late withdrawals of key senior players in Saddington, O?Loughlin and Daryn Cresswell.
He was thrilled at the way they bounced back from the disappointing loss to the Kangaroos the week before, but more importantly it was Sydney?s first win of the season without Cresswell playing.
?I couldn?t be happier with the way the younger guys have stepped into the team. I think it has been very pleasing we have been able to win games and still play younger guys.
?I think the most pleasing thing is winning without Cressa as now he will shut up.?
What also excites Roos is the knowledge the Swans face Essendon on Saturday night at Telstra Stadium with both sides coming off a win after the Bombers defeated West Coast.
?I am wrapped as they have been a great supporter of the national competition, (coach Kevin) Sheedy is a great fan of football in New South Wales and they have come up and play at North Sydney Oval every year.
?He is a great ambassador, they are a fantastic club, they are a very professional club and a popular club, too.
?I think for footy regardless of the result on Saturday night in terms of who wins or loses you would think there would be 45, 50 maybe 50 (thousand) plus so it might even be a record crowd.
?I would just urge everyone that has any remote interest in footy, and even if you don?t, I mean get out there on Saturday night cause you are going to see the Bombers which are one of the benchmark clubs against a Sydney team that obviously we are happy with the way things are going.
?Regardless of the result it is going to be a fantastic night.?
