    O'loughlin

Cannot underestimate the importance of O'loughlin. The weekend just proved how valuable he is to the team, and in particular Barry Hall.

It allows Bazza to play up the ground and leave Micky in the goal square. IMO O'loughlin does better out of the goal square than Hall.

He didn't play brilliantly on the weekend but was still a very important part of the win.

For once P46 we agree, Mickey is one of our best and is a real match winner he is know were near full fittness and if he can ever get a full pre-season in lookout.

I think when we have our best attack on the park imo the most damaging in the AFL.

Agree 100% - leave magic near the goals.

hopefully after the break he can get his injury right and fitness up.

Looked very, ginger, proppy, lame, hobbling - call it what you like

      we need him fit

Same with Saddington - i doubt he will play in the top grade this week. hopefully he can have a run or 2 in the magoos. we will need him to match up on Tredrea when we go to Adelaide

We have seen how damaging micky can be when close to full fitness like against brissy and imo he has finally taken the tag as one of the most disapointing players in terms of not going on to be a fully fledged star to heart this year and i reckon he was on track to be back to his best this year before he got injured.
As damaging as Adam Goodes in full flight, maybe slightly better.

I definitely favour Mick O at FF rather than Bazz. Micky is fabulous in a one-on-one contest in the goalsquare, whereas I reckon Barry struggles there... Barry is a great deliverer of the ball, why waste it?

And even a half fit O'Loughlin would demand a quality defender. Suddenly guys like Davis, Schneider etc are given less capable defenders and THEY run riot.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

I think the forward line being set up like it is right now is awesome - micky is getting a good run, barry is free to roam as he likes, and nicky D will hover and bust his gut when he feels like it - as long as it keeps working i'm all for it! Micky may be spesh on his own, but throw him into a combo like this and he's bloody awesome when on song!

Yeah I hope he plays on the weekend even though he is not fully fit, he is still so valuable up forward. If he can kick 2 or 3 goals and make space for others then he has done hes job. Can't wait till he is fully fit looks very dangerous when hes out there this year.

Mick's actually pretty good out at HF or in a pocket as well when he's fit- and can also deliver the ball well. That's the beauty of it all - not just the quality and variety in the forward line but also the versatility of all the players.

Micky and Doyle in the goal square, Barry at CHF, Davis out wide in the forward 50 and Schneider sneaks in under the tall forward would be the best combo in the business. Having someone like Doyle in the goal square would allow Micky to optimize his elusive skills by running around Doyle, taking marks, making troubles for the opposition. With this setup, we could hurt the opposition from every part of the forward 50's. Plenty of depth and plenty of width in the forward structure. This will make it very hard for the defenders to zone off and support each other. Any defender in isolation is vunelrable. If this is not enough for them to worry about, then enter Goodes. Very hard to match up.

He is one of the rare players who finds his touch after about 5 minutes on the field after an extended lay off, not a few weeks like others

                        Funny how things change, eh?

Late last year people were calling for Goodes and O'Loughlin to be used as trade bait.
                        ...never let that happen again

                            You know what?
At the time, of those who weren't calling for them to be looked at, were keeping an open mind.

They were both in very average form.

I suppose you could say the same thing about Jude Bolton though.
I was one of the people who wouldn't really have cared if he was traded last year (at the time) but he's looking pretty promising again at the moment.

Jeez, I remember though, some people listed over half the team as trade bait, and could only fing 6 or 7 untouchable players.
Wonder what that list would look like about now?

                            maybe I'll start one

                              Kirk
                              Schneider
                              Goodes

Still not all that long. But that's the nature of untouchables lists. The only time a player goes onto the untouchable is a player who I don't think we can easily replace.

*Apologies to Mathews, C.Bolton, Fosdike, Doyle, Schauble and Crouch, who I feel are very important players, but not untradeable.
