He might hit targets at training like most players but he misses a lot during games. Is quite an ordinary shot for goal too, I have seen him miss from 15 metres out. I agree with Reggi that the midfield putting pressure on their opposite numbers restricts the quality delivery into our opposition forward lines. This has made it easier for the defenders. If the ball was coming in without pressure those defenders would struggle if pitted one on one more often. Also according to a recruiting man a couple of years a ago Saddo was worth a first round pick, but no longer.

Not the same person Reggi, although could be one of my split personalities.
Does not appear to care about OP and Stad Aus enough though !!!!!
Never seen him at Bennett family functions either !
DRJ would be in the Dog house at the moment i would guess ?Comment

What amazes me about a lot of our fellow posters is that they go to the game but don't "watch it".
Saddington's great value has never been as a KPP, it's just that we lack genuine KPP's at this time. His value is running off his opponent and making space on the wing to create forward thrusts. Even Eade used him in his capacity to run the lines when we were at the height of our flooding game.
He is cool under presure and if you study his game closely he has great stamina with his last quarters usually very good in comparison to most other players.Comment

Yeh, similiar to Rawlings from hawthorn imo - saddo could be that as your description fits.
In terms of KPP I suppose it depends on the type of forward the opponent has. Saddo is the same size and a relatively good matchup against somelike Tarrant, however against a solid forward, like a Lynch, Carey, Rocca, etc, Saddo is too small.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Excuse me, but isn't Saddington a back man. So on the odd occasion he goes up forward he misses a goal. I think the last shot he had on goal was at least 2 seasons ago.
I seem to remember Leo missing one from about 1 metre on a 45 degree angle against Richmond, another back man.
Fancy even bringing up the subject of poor goal kicking when we are currenly the most accurate side in the comp by a mile.Comment

I think Saddington has been consistent this season.
He is important in our backline - I hope he is fit to take Tredrea
My only criticsm is that sometimes he backs himself too often to mark when he should punch and sometimes he is pushed out of the contest by "gorillas"
Note : I said sometimes
Agree with all the other stuff about not being a KPP etc, etc BUT
He is our one really tall defender and has good skills
I reckon re is worth a punt at CHF (even thoug BBBH is our best option)September 24th, 2005 5.14pm

If true, he's not alone. Goodes, for example, is one of the worst offenders at missing sitters.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Saddo might be the same size as Tarrant but Tarrant kills him in the air, especially towards the end of games and has better stamina. Last year's game he kicked 4 on Saddo in the last quarter and won Collingwood the game, made Saddo look silly.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

IMO and recollection he's been caned whenever he's played on Tredrea (that pre-season final last year immediately springs to mind). Still, he would probably be the best option and the way Tredrea's playing its a matter of containment.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Saddo wont be playing on tredrea because he will be playing the reserves getting fitness back after a long lay off. He will be back round 14 or so.No.1 ticket holder of Nick Davis Fan Club...Comment

These posts are getting sillier and sillier!
The idea that if a defender plays on a gun forward and concedes 4 goals he has somehow been 'killed' is ridiculous.
A good full-forward is supposed to kick 4 or 5 goals week in week out - that's his bread and butter. Lockett, Dunstall, Ablett, Lloyd would be disappointed to only kick 4 goals in a match. If Schauble or Saddington concede 4 or 5 goals to Neitz or Tarrant or Lynch, then as far as I'm concerned they've broken even.
And even the best defenders get 10 or more goals kicked on them occasionally, even Silvagni and Dunkley. That hasn't happened to either Schauble or Saddington (yet).
And as for Tredrea, the key is not how many marks he takes, but where he takes them. Saddington actually plays Tredrea quite well, not by restricting his marking necessarily, but by forcing him downfield and out to the wings. Just as Bolton did to Matthew Richardson recently.Comment
