Ok so football is where the guys run around with a black and white round ball right?? Ok so i was wrong. The fact I dont faollow any sport at all.....(yes i really am a kiwi) I was dragged....yes literally dragged along by Mike_B to the swans Vs Essendon game....I sat down and had to have a giggle at the fact that there were 2 lots of goal posts and no cross bar. What sorta sport is this? Rugby right?
They sung the national anthem...Boy did i get dirty looks when i began singing Waltzing Matilda. It was about then I shut up.
the game started and I had no idea what was going on, except for the fact that I had to cheer for the team in the red and white (either that or I would have to find my own way home and I had no idea where that was) Mike, im sure was getting annoyed because i would nudge him and say "What did that mean" or "Whats happening now?"
Ok so the swans werent doing any good the ist half...it was rather ho hum. but into the second half, OMG it was awesome. Lotsa feet stamping and yelling by the avid swans supporters. I had a great time, but wasnt going to let anyone know that (Ruin my reputation)
Then came the Swans Vs Bulldogs.......either i go to the game, or spend my last night in Sydney alone.....so, complete with the swans shirt, scarf and beanie.....I sat at yet another game.
Even tho I still have very very limited ideas on how the game is ment to go, my comment was to Mike_B that it appeared to me to be a rather dirty clash.
After half time, the swannies spread their wings and kicked butt yet again. I was wondering....does the coach give them methamphetamine cookies during half time?
Mike asked me my thoughts on the game, and my comment was it was a craoss between rugby, netball and ballet (I saw some lovely grande jetes there!)
so now...I guess i can say that Im a converted AFL supporter...from afar.
And thanks especially to Mikey, and the fellow swans supporters that tolerated me and made me feel like one of the crowd.
GO SWANNIES!!!!!!!

Has a lot of physical stuff, and the structure of play is very similar to netball IMHO. Both ARF and Netball have absolute positions rather than relative - and the way the ball is passed around is very similar in both. Sharp skills needed in both too - Janey Altschwager showed her skills in the celebrity match before the main game
