not sure about that call on stevens. I heard somewhere that Roos wants him to try to become a defender...a switch to the backline much like the success we've had for Leo. It'd be good if they can give him some time to try for it. Definitely now that Hall is ranging all over the centre half forward position, a case for Stevens there is bleak.

so who would you delist - trade - retire Jon???

in my pipe dream of luring judd to the swans (relatively close to home, with the sun, surf and money as well ) i would see a trade of nicks, stevens, fosdike and draft pick in order...

stevens, saddington and bolton would be a crowded backline full of skinny tall defenders... we need some beef cakes!

Penga, what are you going to do for a backline without Warfe, Matthews, Schauble and Seymour? And you don't have Stevens as a possible switch as Jon just outlined.

Warfe is slow but has been a useful contributor so far this season at key moments.
Out of all those, Seymour would be the one I'd be least concerned about losing, but then he hasn't really had any time this year.

Don't know about the retire/delist/trade mix, but I'd be ok if the following departed:
Nicks (form slump has continued since last year)
        Seymour
        McPherson

sorry i missed it, i mustve blinked

the backline would consist of (if the top, goes to plan):

          fixter (????/james) bolton
          barry playfair saddington

with the possibility of the following inclusions:
          powell
          LRT
          crouch
          kennelly
          JM (possibilty, i wish!)
          thewlis
with a number of other rookies knocking on the door

the idea of success is too look to the future, not the past!

So you want a player who has played only 5 senior games and is injury prone to be our FB, and a young kid has yet to debut to be our CHB? I doubt Geelong would trade Playfair anyway unless a trade was heavily weighted in their favour.

Schauble has been solid, without being spectacular, he will stay. As for Mathews, he has shown the ability to blanket a guy like Mercuri recently, and has delivered great passes to Hall in the forward 50.

If Dempster comes along during the next year, he could hold a key defensive position.

My comments on Stevens are based on his marking capacity and height. He's pretty mobile, and would certainly crash some packs for our fleet-footed regiment of backmen.

If I had to, which right now I don't think I do, my three would be Frosty and Nicks and Seymour. Frosty especially. The midfield has just moved on without him, and Fixter is still in the wings as another quality prospect.

I think a case can be made for the last two, however. It's damn harsh dropping a player like Seymour without giving him a chance to play. Look at Heath James. Nicks has also played some good football in the last two weeks. Plus you need to retain some experience round the place.

When Cressa retires we'll have more room in the list, and more money to offer a ready-made player. The way we're travelling, it also now looks possible to offer a decent pick as an incentive to trade with us.

Question is: will Roos go down that path?

As for beefcake, I don't think this gameplan we're running requires too many of them. I think with LRT, BALL, GOODES and DOYLE we have some options to go back if needed.

It would be great if Heath James was fit though.
Maybe they can genetically engineer new hammies for him?

                  What about Nicks for Playfair?

Matty's experience and leadership would be appreciated in the still-developing Cats side, and we may get a home-grown gorilla-killer!

my list was all based on the 'p word' including the backline, thats why i put james in brackets and question marks...

doggies might possibly want schauble, bit of height, bit of experience etc etc... FWIW, IIRC they would kill for a KPP ATM IMO
