No it has been known since day one, it just never got the public notice. In 1996 West Coast earnt the right for a home final, as did Brisbane as the Bears were the higher ranked team, West Coast had to play in Melbourne.
    Once was, now elsewhere

The way the clubs go on is one minded and dumb. You don't hear people complaining about the NRL's Finals policy where the Finals from week 2 on a set in stone and won't change no matter who is playing. These finals are set at 2 grounds in Sydney. This has led to a Broncos vs Storm final being played in Sydney.

Get over it its only one game per week and in few years time with the banking of games means it won't be important.
You're support for this contract doesn't have anything to do with the fact that you're Melbourne-based, I hope.

        Melbourne finals are CULT!!!!

Think of it guys. We could have 30000 Swans supporters in Melbourne for a match for the first time. nearly 20000 in Melbourne, especially if they got some of the older South fans to dust off their Skilts duffle coats. Plus say half our Sydney membership (say 10000).

If we were playing West Coast or even one of the Adelaide sides in Melbourne, I still reckon we could draw 40000-50000 at the G.

If we were playing one of the Perth sides, we'd have the place, and Melbourne, to ourselves for the day, meaning it would be easier to nab tickets!

And think of the pizza meet-up afterwards. We'd have to hire La Porchetta out that night!

10000 people travelling down from Sydney is rather optomistic, though it would be nice.

I would much rather see 65000 - 70000 at Stadium Australia. It would also be the prime opportunity for us to expand our supporter base. Let's face it, a lot of Sydney supporters/members came on board after the 1996 finals played in Sydney. This wouldn't happen if Melbourne stole our final(s).

Imagine if that 1996 preliminary final against Essendon was played in Melbourne. Whilst it still would have been wonderful, it would have had half the emtotion and the magic.

Of course they earnt the right back in 1996 and they would have to earn the right again if they want a home final this year.

There is no point arguing for a home final if they didn't earn it. I'm just trying to make the point that if we earn the right to play a home final it MUST be played in Sydney and the arguments for playing it in Melbourne are weak.
