    You are all bloody hilarious.

There weren't many 'experts' on this board tipping us for greatness or even top 8 at the start of the season.

In fact after round 4 the majority were talking about the merits of finishing last compared to 9th and tipping us for the spoon.

Thats what makes our game so great is that at the start of every year, you think that this could be the year for your club. Except if you are a Carlton supporter

The eveness of the competition is its main strength

I didn't arrive in the country till '94 and started following footy when I started working in Sydney in '95 (I'm an actor) and one of the blokes I worked with started a tipping comp. I had to barrack for Sydney as my flatmate was a Geelong nut (who was at the '63 Grand Final) and he couldn't, in all honesty, inflict that on me so he encouraged me to follow his second team.

The funny thing is that my mate only started the tipping comp to make money as 75% of the company were from overseas and most of the rest were from Sydney.

He duly won the comp (and $350 bucks) but I got third ($150) and have been hooked on footy ever since.

The main thing it proved, though, is that Phillipino singers may look and sound great but they know NOTHING about football.

So back to the original point - when I started following footy there was no such thing as a player with a moustache!

I've just got back from 4 weeks in the US and I'm really surprised at how well the boys are going. (Iwas getting the scores but not rundowns of the games) I think at the start of the year 7-10 wins was what I thought we end up with, and after round 4, I was one of those who thought the wooden spoon looked on the cards.

In March I don't even Nostradamus could have picked us to be where we are at the moment.

Anyway, just watched the tapes of all the games I've missed and really impressed at the improvement of second tier players, the team really seem to be playing as a even group. No real standout stars just everyone playing really well and backing up their mates. And just think Roosey has still managed to blood several youngsters along the way.

At rnd 4 I thought we were stuffed - pre-season I just hoped for a good rebuilding year were half a dozen youngsters would establish themselves.

We have had form and a blessed run with injury - though I suspect that has something to do with improved planning. You always got a sense that Eade ran players into the ground.

Well experts probably were basing it more on last year's form. goodes was ordinary the past couple of seasons, nobody could realistically expect the improvement in some. But of course it won't count for much unless we win finals. Teams have good years followed by bad, examples, Dees, Tiges, Pies. It is more important to build up a list which wins flags. If we fail to win finals this year we might rue the opportunity to get the draft picks which will cover weaknesses and retirements. Getting to the finals means nothing unless you win in my opinion.
