    Finals

Ok we know now that there will be one final at the MCG each week.

If the finals were this weekend we would play Port at AAMI. Say we lost that, who would we play the week after? I assume it would be Freo or Kangas (should they both win their matches). Where would this match be played?

If we won our semi final we would play West Coast at the MCG which would be pretty good, excellent chance of winning that.

Then play Port in the Grand Final at the MCG.

If we lost agianst Port, then we would play against either Fremantle or Collingwood in the next week. I think that if we were to play against Freo, it would be at the SCG but if it were Collingwood, it would be at the MCG. How about if we win and go the prelim. Could we play Brisban and would that be at the MCG?

But if we played Freo, wouldn't it be at the MCG because the other semi final would be played at the Gabba (Brisbane would be a higer ran then us).

Yes we would definitely play at the 'G because the loser of the 2 v 3 game (Bris or Eagles) would get to host (against winner of 6 v 7). So we would be only lowest ranked "home" team, hence play at the 'G....
So on the current ladder that would be against Freo.
Even if a Victorian side were playing in the other game we would still be hosting at the 'G

Your missing the point. It is the sydney supporters who are being disadvataged. Not necessarily the team.

I think it is both, Sydney are more familiar to playing at home and of course the Sydney Swans supporters would want to go to the game.

You have hit the nail on the head. Sure our team is disadvantaged but likewise no one seems to be discussing the impact the MCG deal has on interstate fans such as us. Buying a membership can't even gurantee you the right to see your beloved team play a home final even when they have earnt it. Instead interstate supporters may be forced to spend money on tickets, travel, and accommodation in Melbourne to watch a game in a half empty stadium. It just ain't right.

I just hope the AFL punishes the MCG next year and in the years to come with the draw. I wanna see no more than the 45 (inc. the finals) games at the MCG each season for the next 40 years, With the exception of the Blockbuster games all other games that make up the 40 or so games requried at the MCG during the H&A season should be where possible low crowd drawing games involving Victorian and interstate teams. It's time for the AFL to show the MCG just how much power the AFL has, all of which is of course in accordance with the riduculous contract terms.

Sorry, but I don't understand what you mean as interstate. If you mean Sydney, then sorry, look at my location, Melbourne. It is sad that some supporters are going to disadvantaged whereever the final is played. However, there would be more disappointed fans in Sydney if the final was to be played at the G', rather than the other way around.

i'D LIKE TO KNOW WHO WAS THE DIC*HEAD who signed the contract with no vision to the "national game" regards to the finals contract.

Maybe the AFL could just choose to break the contract when interstate clubs are playing finals and let them selves be sued
and see what the courts do

Maybe its a risk worth taking

would the MCG be prepared to "bite the hand that feeds it"

let's face it, AFL footy is its (MCG) cash-cow. They only make big $$ from cricket during the Boxing Day test.

The AFL realy needs to stand upto the MCG.

How much are the AFL subsidising the redevelopment of the Ponsford Stand ?

Your last point is the point I was making. The majority of members/supporters are based in Sydney therefore the majority are disadvantaged. I do apologise if that was not clear the first time.

Remember that when the deal was signed back in 1990 there were only 3 interstate teams and no provision for interstate finals whatsoever. Since then 3 teams joined the league and in 1991 the league but in provisions for an interstate team to host a home final in week 1 only, this was then changed in 1996 to if they earn the right provided the MCG gets 1 match.

What has it taken you lot 6 years to work this out and start calling for change???
